i've been noticing that Elle's starting to have a bald spot. we always put her down on her back. sometimes even if i try to put her down a tad sideways. she still ends up flat on her back. she doesn't have a flat head though. during the day, she normally naps in the moby so she's not sleeping on her crib all day/night. any tips on how we can avoid the bald spot? TIA!
Re: how to avoid a bald spot?
Jack got one, but it was very slight. I really thing baby wearing prevented, but overall I doubt there is much you can do about it.
FWIW, J slept on his back with his head facing one side, we didn't have an infant seat and he never did take to his swing. All of that probably limited the bald spot.

Yup, it's normal. Some babies get it worse than others... Carrying does help. Alexa had a slight one like Lisa described, a line across the lower back of her head where her hair rubbed off when she turned her head from side to side. It grew back pretty fast and she now has TONS of hair! So don't worry!

Seriously?
Why? Did they think the baby wasn't being picked up enough?
Holy cow! Really? I don't get it. I remember seeing little black hairs on the changing pad and thinking, "is that cat sneaking in her and napping on the changing pad?" The I realized it was Libby's hair rubbing off.

yes, it meant that they were just laying on their backs all the time and no one was picking them up! pediatricians used to report parents for it! they don't do it anymore now, though, b/c they realize it's hard to interpret....
funny, b/c i remember feeling a bit embarrassed to take Miss A out in public with her huge bald spot... I mean, it was just not some mild hair loss....it was gone in one large circle and her head was shiny! i was worried people would think that we weren't picking her up enough....seems like i'm the only around here who knew about that perception? :P
