Hi! I am a new momma so new to cloth diapering also. I was going to buy some of the rockin green detergent but wanted to ask your advice. I was going to get the "soft rock" because I have always been allergic to detergent and have needed the no dyes and scent kind. Does this one work as well on the diapers or do you need something more intense? Is there a different brand that is better? Also, is there a good site that can explain to me exacly how to prep the diapers? I got a pamplet when I bought some BG's but it didn't have that much information. Any more info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated! TIA!
Re: Rockin Green Detergent and prepping diapers
"Soft rock" is meant for soft water. It has nothing to do with dyes or scents. There is unscented kinds in the classic rock and hard rock versions as well. Don't get soft rock unless you have soft water, or you'll have cleaning problems. (Ditto for the Hard Rock.)
Here's a map saying which type is probably right for you:

RG soap is specially formulated for diapers, so it cleans fine. It's what I use and I've had no problems whatsoever.
How you prep the diapers depends on the diaper, that's why most diapers come with istructions. Pockets with MF inserts and PUL covers tend to only need one wash. Some PUL covers need to be machine dried at least once to "seal" the PUL. Natural fiber fitteds or prefolds need a more intense prepping regimen that can include boiling or multiple wash/dry cycles to fuff up and become absorbent. THe manufacturer websites should have instructions.
