So last night was night three of letting Libby CIO. She only cried/fussed for 30 minutes! As we were winding down for the night, she crawled over to me, grabbed her blanket and wanted to nurse in my lap. She said, "nigh-night mama." It was adorable! She's done this with my mom and DH at nap time, but never with me.
We nursed and she started to doze so I whispered, "nigh-night Libby. You're going to have good sleep in your bed." I put her down and she fussed a bit and then calmed down. A few minutes later she started up (I used the monitor last night). Off and on for about 20 minutes and then just little whimpers and finally, silence at 8:30 p.m.!
She slept until 11:30 p.m. and then cried. I went in, picked her up and she wanted to nurse so I did for about 10 minutes. I put her back in the crib and covered her up and said, "Nigh-night." She fussed for 5 minutes and was out.
At 3 a.m. she awoke again and this time I just brought her into bed with me. I get up for the day at 5 a.m. and J doesn't have to be up for school today so I thought he'd appreciate it if she was in the bed with him so she'd sleep longer, until about 8-8:30 a.m., like usual.
HOORAY! I am so relieved that this is working for us. It's nice to know that I trusted my instincts and didn't try sooner (I had thought about doing it at 8 months but we had 10 days in Seattle bedsharing and a week in Las Vegas in November bedsharing and thought it'd be too confusing for her to go back and forth).
I still cannot bear to hear her cry, but she's crying less and fussing more, which indicates to me that she's starting to "get it." Plus, we're all sleeping SO much better, including her. More rest for everyone, means better, happier days.
Re: Operation Sleep-in-your-crib: Night Three
such good news...hopefully soon enough she will just go down with no fussing at all!
happy to hear that it's working out! we transitioned Elle to her room/crib at 6 weeks and we're definitely getting more rest and sleep!
I love Hawaii!

Yaaaaaaay! I'm so glad it's getting better and better!
As far as this goes...don't beat yourself up over it. You tried something (not doing CIO) and it didn't work for Libby. This isn't something to punish yourself over - ultimately you did what she needed, even though it meant you had to overcome your own preferences and heartache to do it. That's a good thing!
I think this is a great attitude.....and SO true!
I feel your pain with the crying, it's hard to stomach your baby crying when you know you can easily go "save" her but you are teaching her a valuable lesson, that she CAN fall asleep on her own and her crib is a safe place for her! That's awesome Lori!
Better sleep for everyone is always a plus!
