Ectopic or natural???

On Jan 1st I took a positive home pregnancy test and followed that with two more home test on the 2 (all positive).  I made my 1st prenatal appointment scheduled at 8 weeks but on Jan 6th I had bleeding and continue to spot.  Called the Dr. 1st thing in the morning and was sent for U/S and HCG blood test on Friday`Jan 6th.  The results were that my HCG was only at 119 and of course with a number that low they couldn't see anything in the u/s. Was sent for another HCG test on Monday the 10th and the HCG increased to 211. Because that number was not doubled in 72 hrs they had me retest on wednesday Jan 12th.  The HCG on the 12th was 209.  Because the numbers went down at an abnormal rate they are concerned it is ectopic and I have to go again on Friday for another HCG test and wait for results to determine if methotrexate therapy is needed if HCG continues to decline at slow rate.  Does a slow decline typically indicate ectopic pregnancy? I continue to bleed though its light, not like a period but mostly just there when I wipe after using the bathroom.  Has anyone had a similar experience and if so what was the outcome and course of treatment?

First off I'm very sorry you are going thru this. What you are describing sounds like an EP to me. I know lots of ladies who had this same thing happen and had it treated with Metho. Unfortunatly I had to have surgery because my tube was so close to rupturing and I lost my right tube. Sometimes it takes more that one shot and most of the time after your first shot your numbers go up before they come down. I hope that they are able to successfully treat you with metho and you don't have to have surgery. Again I'm very sorry you are going thru all this.

I've had both and for me both were very different.  My natural miscarriage started on a friday morning at 9000 and by monday it was completely done and my numbers were 0. 

 

My ectopic i thought originally was a second miscarriage but when i did my follow-up labwork my numbers were still rising, slowly.  I got the Methotrexate shot and my numbers went down (they never did that first rise thing like so many people said happened to them).  Slowly but they went down...unfortunately I'm not done or something...

I was pretty similar to you, took my first test on NYE but had pain and bleeding.  My counts were I think 760 and then only went up to 830 3 days after.  They did an US and couldn't see anything in the uterus or the tubes so I went home.  Did another test and my count went up just a little more.  By time I went back to the ER, my tube ruptured.  They said that it ruptured right through the tube the day before my US (when I had a horrible pain) and that was why they didn't see anything.  If it is ectopic, they can usually just give you an injection, but if it ruptures, then surgery is needed.

Since your hgc's are so low you won't see anything but since your levels aren't doubling it's definitely not a viable pregnancy.  I'm sooo sorry!!!

 

I was diagnosed with ectopic on Tuesday.  My first level was 4470 then went to 6600.  My ob/gyn couldn't confirm ectopic at first because the u/s didn't show anything.  I needed confirmation to make me fee better so she sent me to radiology where they found the yolk sac in my tube.  I had methotrexate injection on Thursday and now I'm waiting for the process to begin tomorrow (it takes 4 days).

So here's the update: I went for the 4th HCG test and this time the numbers went from 209 to 128.  My doctor felt confidant that the numbers were now declining appropriately and that the medication and or surgery was not needed.  I had to travel for work the following Sunday through Friday, which I cleared with my Dr.  She expected that my bleeding would pick up during that week and in fact it did.  I haven't had any bleeding since this part Friday so I think it's finally all over.  I go back tomorrow for one more blood test just to confirm the numbers have gone down to 0.  What a rollercoaster this has all been! Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement and support.  I can't wait to try again and now its so weird to where I was not obsessed about conceiving before now I feel a little more obsessed but definitely going to follow my Dr.'s orders to hold off until after having a normal cycle before trying again.  Fingers crossed, good wishes and lots of luck to all of us trying to conceive again!
