Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Questions I don't want to be asking..(Ticker/SiggyPic Warning)

Hey Ladies,

Long story short, this past December I had a chemical PG and had a natural MC, never went into the OB etc..

Last week we found out we were pg again, yesterday I had severe cramps and bleeding. I know I misscarried this baby. I think I was about 5 weeks along, I called my OB last night, told her what was going on (Got betas done last week) She said to come into the office for testing next week.

My questions are, What are the testing for? the HCG hormone, to make sure its gone?

Also, I am concerned about my progestrone levels, (I've had issues with hormone/prog. in the past) Do you think I could ask her to check my levels, so when we do TTC in a few months I know everythings okay?

So sorry for everyones losses, I hate that I we all have to be on this board, but thankful that it is here too.

  • I am so terribly sorry for your previous loss and that you are going through this now.  I am, however, glad that you came to this board  :((

My (new) doctor followed up with a round of bloodwork to test hcg and another u/s. They'll probably want to check your hcg against last week and possibly follow up with an u/s.

I feel very 'in tune' with my body lately (maybe even more so than before/while I was pregnant).  Physically I feel fine and healthy... waiting for the results but am staying positive.

I absolutely think you should ask your doctor for whatever you feel you need.  I would expect if they were ordering blood work that asking for hcg and progesterone would be no biggie.  I've been lucky to have had awesome docs and MW's that I trust.

I'll be thinking of you in the coming days and I hope you find (some) comfort here.

  • Yes they are checking the HCG to make sure it goes down. I was told on both my MC's that if it doesnt hit zero after a couple weeks then I would need a D&C. I was able to complete the MC on my own though. I had weekly draws until it was "undetectable".

Also, they will probably want to run a panel of lab work, but wouldnt think they would run that unless talking to you first as it can be expensive if insurance doesnt cover. We had the choice, and we accepted and insurance paid 100%. My OB runs this panel after 2 MC's if nothing else is a blaring issue.

Sorry for your loss's. I agree that it sucks we have to be here, but glad there is a place for us to seek comfort. I have only posted once or twice on this board but would have no problem asking questions, etc on this board.

  • I didn't have natural miscarriages, I went with the D&C so I don't really know what they would be looking for, but I just wanted to say I'm so sorry for your losses. This is an amazing support system and I'd be lost without these ladies.
  • awww Hun I am so sorry that you are going through this.  But welcome to the board, this is a great source for support and answers, as we have all gone through or are going throught what you are. ((HUGS)) to you.
