Multiple pumps into the same bottles

If I'm pumping only 2 hours apart, would it be bad to leave the shields/bottles/milk at room temp and pump again into the same bottles (particularly at 2 & 4am). Just to pump, go back to sleep, then pick up the same stuff and pump again since the bottles aren't full from the first pump. I know milk is fine at room temp for more than 2 hours, and there shouldn't be a huge temperature difference... is it safe?

  • I think it's fine, as long as you don't have the heat turned way up it's not going to go bad that quickly.  Just put it in the fridge as soon as you get up.

  • Right or wrong, I do this at work.  I pump every 2 hours at work and leave the sheilds attached to the bottles.  When not pumping, I have the frozen ice pack to keep the bottles chilled, but the milk inside never seems to be that cold.  As soon as I get home, I put it all in the fridge.  We've done this for 3 months without issues, so I presume it's working out OK.
