random panic about labor

I'm only 17 weeks, but sometimes i have random quick thoughts of labor and get really nervous! Is anyone else having this? Is it normal to panic briefly at this point for a first pregnancy?

Re: random panic about labor

  • i've survived labor, and i still get random panic about it.  i think it's normal.  you need to start psyching yourself up now.  keep telling yourself that you can do it.  during my last pregnancy, i read a lot of positive birth stories and such to get myself into the can-do spirit. it worked!

  • I haven't had any scares of labor just yet...I'm more scared for the weeks after baby comes and getting no sleep.

  • it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. My thing now, is the when. My hospital is over 30 min away and we have no family here, so if DH is at work say, on an overnight shift and I am at the point where I can longer speak, am i really going to have to drive me and J to the hospital?? That is more scary to me than labor. I really dont want to have a 3rd deg tear again, though...that was awful.

Funny - I too have these panicky moments but I just keep thinking millions do this all the time...I was made for this!! :) ANd i push the thoughts out of my head.

I too had a dream last night about labor (my first dram like this) and I was in the hospital room and wondering where the heck the pain was...I felt nothing...and i was pushing.  Then I looked around and saw nurses all over the place and machines and I was like why the hell did I decide to give birth in a hospital...this energy is not good...thoughts while pushing!  Crazy right!? I completely plan on giving birth in a hospital so the dream was a lil weird for me.

  • Whenever I would sit down and think about getting pregnant and going through labor I would get scared b/c I hate needles.  I thought about getting blood drawn during prenatal dr. visits.  Whenever I see people on tv on those labor and delivery shows they have IVs hooked up to them.  After getting pg I read that I may need a catheter during L&D.  For some reason all that freaks me out more than labor pains.  I've even had a catheter before and it wasn't that bad when they put it in.  The 2 times I've had blood drawn so far has not been bad either- I just get worked up before it happens and then it's no big deal.  I'm honestly more scared of getting an epidural at this point than going without one.  But, I'm sure my tune will change as the date gets closer.
