I was talking to a new-mommy friend of mine the other day and she asked if I had been looking at any "wedding ring stand-ins" yet. Ummm.... I didn't realize this was something that people did, but I guess I never really thought about it either. Apparently, when your rings don't fit anymore you buy a cheap-ish substitute in a larger size to wear until they fit again. She said she didn't want people thinking she was unmarried and pregnant. I never even considered that my rings wouldn't fit in the near future, but I guess it happens?
Has anybody else heard of doing this? Has anyone actually looked at rings yet? She said she got hers at Belk in their sterling silver collection, I was just wondering where to look if/when I think about doing this.
Re: Wedding ring substitute?
DH bought me a gorgeous pearl solitare (hopefully the baby's birthstone!) for Christmas one size bigger than my ring size.
I'm wearing it on my right hand on a bigger finger for now, but I know if I outgrow my wedding rings I can switch it. And I'll keep wearing it after the baby is here as a mothers ring. I adore it!
My wedding ring is getting tight and I can't get my solitaire on in the morning anymore
I just ordered this as a fun stand-in: https://www.emitations.com/celestialbluering.html
My solitaire is a marquise cut and I've been wanting to get it reset sideways (my mom's marquise is set that way and it's gorgeous - very unique), so I thought I'd wear this one for a while and see how I like it. If I need to get my engagement ring resized because my fingers don't shrink back, I'm considering having the stone reset sideways.
Been away from theBump for a while, getting active again for all the good advice
I always take mine off at night, because I have very sensitive skin.
My wedding ring is actually way too big - I only had my engagement ring re-sized, so it holds my wedding ring on my finger! So this won't be a worry of mine.
However, when I went to Europe last summer, I bought a cheap ring to take instead of my real rings, because I didn't want to travel with anything expensive. I got it at Nordstrom Rack, so it wasn't totally crap jewelry but nothing fancy. It turned my finger GREEN!
So I coated the inside with clear nail polish, and then it didn't turn my finger green anymore.
Exactly! I had a lady in the grocery store today ask me if I enjoyed having a snow day out of school, and if I was driving my parents crazy being home... seriously?? I'm 28!! I haven't lived with my parents in 10 years! I know some people don't care what others think, and I admire them... I think I'm just too self conscious and don't want to deal with looks and questions from busy bodies.
I had to do this with DS. I ended up buying it at around 12 weeks but did not have to wear it until around 16 weeks. It could have also been b/c it was hot in May and I was swollen. I ended up wearing it up to 4 weeks after I gave birth to DS. I just got a sterling silver band. This time around it seems my rings still fit, for now...
mine actually feels loose due to the colder weather right now.
If it ends up getting too tight later on I may just get a cheapie band to wear for a while..
