We think Kennedy might have broken her nose on Monday, but I'm not sure. She was running into the house to find me (coming home from SIL's house next door), just being silly and turning her head side to side very dramatically calling my name, when she ran straight into a piece of furniture in the living room. Like, smacked her face right into it. Her nose started swelling immediately and of course she freaked out. But then she calmed down pretty quickly and held an ice pack on it off and on the rest of the day. I talked to a nurse at the pedi's office, and she said that even if it is broken, they would want to wait until the swelling went down to do anything about it, so to wait a couple of days and take her in if it looks crooked or anything. So we are going in a little while, but now I'm feeling like I might just be paranoid. She ony complains about it if she rolls onto her face when she is sleeping, but she can rub her nose without any pain. She never seems to be bothered by it during the day, and she will let us touch it. It is still bruised and a little swollen, more on one side than the other, but I would expect it to be more painful if it really is broken. What do you think? Obviously I have never had a broken nose, so I am going off of nose-breaking scenes in the movies, where it always looks awful. But maybe, just maybe, the movies are not totally realistic...

Re: Have you ever had a broken nose? Or has your DC?
No, and no. But, I am so sorry! Poor Kennedy!!
Also, when are we going to breakfast again?
i don't have any experience with broken noses, but i hope she recovers soon! poor girl!
i did smile at your description of how she hurt it- sounds just like her silly self! ouch!!
I don't have any experience with broken noses, but I do with Elena's broken arm this past summer.
Sounds to me like it could very well be broken. Elena broke both bones near her wrist, and she cried when it happened, but went on to eat dinner, take a bath, go to bed, etc etc. She could still hold things with the hand, although she preferred not. I thought I was being paranoid when I took her in too, (and even told the Dr. I thought she might just be being dramatic (!)), but lo and behold it was quite broken. The Dr. said kids are just different with broken bones...

I was 4, learning how to ride a bike, face over handlebars. It didn't look awful, just swollen, but my parents took me in anyway. It was definitely broken, but for whatever reason it couldn't be fixed at that age so my parents were told to wait until I was 14 or older. I don't remember what it felt like in the days/weeks after, but I didn't get it fixed until I was 25. I had severe migraines, bad allergies, and horrible breathing problems from about the age of 12, so I really wished my parents had gotten it fixed when I was younger!! My bones healed and set fairly well, although my nose does lean a touch to my left- you've seen me and I doubt you've even noticed. :-) My problem was the damage to the septum, which doesn't show up on x-ray anyway and I guess doesn't set until puberty anyway (hence the rec to fix as a teenager and late onset of problems).
I would have it checked just to be sure though, so you know what you're dealing with.
