Unfortunately our surprise pregnancy is ending in a natural miscarriage. I started spotting 2 days ago and today it is very very heavy. My beta yesterday was 40 (I should be a little over 6 weeks). I am not sure what to expect.

How many days did you bleed?

How long was it before you got your next period?

How long will you wait (or what is the recommendation) to try again? 

Did you see your doctor for a follow up appointment after the mc?

Hi and I am so sorry for what you are going through.  I can answer your questions with my experience and hope that with hearing of others experiences you find at least some comfort in knowing what to expect... although everyone is different and we can't predict how anyones situation will play out

I spotted light brown for about four days, bright red (spotting) the night before I m/c and passed tons of tissue, the sac, and blood within a few hours the morning of 12/16.  I stayed home through all of it... just couldn't stand the idea of an ER at that point when I knew what was happening and had confirmed with my MW over the phone.  She ordered an u/s for me that afternoon to confirm and make sure all "products of pregnancy" had passed, which they had.

I bled for about 4 days after that, moderately, not really heavy at all.

I went to my doctor last week to follow up, per the request of my H.  She ordered another u/s just to double check everything, and said that I should wait 2 cycles to TTC again.

AF showed up 19 days after my m/c...at least I am 99% sure it is AF I suppose only time / my follow up u/s will tell.  From what I understand, MOST women don't get AF until at least 3 weeks after the bleeding has stopped and some don't get it for much, much longer.

You'll be in my thoughts, and I am so very sorry.

I will share my answers, though I think you will find that all of these answers differ drastically for different women.

I bled for about 2.5 weeks after a missed miscarriage that was treated with misoprostol. It was very heavy for the first week, and then just seemed to linger and linger and linger.

 My doctor recommended waiting two cycles, then changed her mind to one cycle, then told us that whenever we were ready it was okay but that we likely wouldn't get pregnant before getting AF.

AF showed up 10 days ago, and we lost our baby 6 weeks ago yesterday. 

We started trying the weekend before AF showed up, and are now actively TTC again. 

I'm sorry for your losses and I hope that you find comfort and support here.

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this.  As the previous posters said, everyone is different, but I will share my stories. 

With my first m/c, I spotted for 2 days before it became heavy bleeding.  The heavy bleeding only lasted two days before tapering off like a normal period.  It took about 35 days to get AF, and I had a follow up appointment after that.  I don't remember that dr. saying to wait to try again (but she was terrible). 

With my 2nd m/c, I started spotting before I get my second beta results.  My m/w was able to get the results early, and the numbers had gone down.  I spotted for 3 days, then had a half day of terrible cramping, heavy bleeding, and passed a lot of clots.  After that it was fairly light, and I only bled for a couple of days.  It took days to get AF.  When I had my follow up, my m/w said to wait to try again until we saw an RE and figured out what was wrong.  We didn't really listen, though, since it took us a year in between pgs, and we didn't think we'd succeed on our own quickly anyway. 

This time, we will be waiting for the genetic testing results to come back before discussing our next move with RE, which will take up to two months.

I am so sorry that you are going through this loss.  And like they said eveyone is different so I will share my experience in short since there is a lot.

Dec 3rd we found out our baby had stopped growing i was almost 11weeks PG but the baby stopped growing at just about 7 weeks.  They deemed it a missed MC.  I went to my MW and she gave me my opetions the D&C wait for it to happen or to take the meds Misoprostol.  Well my baby was already gone for 4 weeks and my body was not regognising my baby was gone.  still growing sack, and crazy PG symptoms still raging, So I looked at all the side affects and Didnd tlike the idea of surgery so I took the Misoprostol to speed up the process.  And lets just say it was horrible, lots so much blood was in the ER 3 times very scary.  I have been bleeding for about 5 weeks now.  And because my BETs kept creeping up I had to have the D&E done yesterday morning anyway because my body hadnt gotten rid of everything on its own.  Now looking back after all that i went through and could have lost my life I would have goten the D&C done right away.  Again this is my personal experience and not eveyone has the same.

And yes you DEF DO need a follow up to do a draw and see where your levels are at and make sure that everything passes.  HTH and you are in my thoughts.
