what is an umbrella stroller for?

We got one as a gift for my shower and I've never used it. What's the point of them? Do they have weight limits?

Re: what is an umbrella stroller for?

  • They are just light weight, easy to travel with strollers. It's the one I use the most.

  • I use mine if we are out and I am in a hurry, if dd needs to be contained in lines.  Mostly at the doctor, running into stores, or places where I need a place to put either DD or stuff.  She is almost 2.5 and can walk a lot, but not in parking lots without me holding her hand and she still runs away sometimes, so if I have to hold a lot of stuff with my hands and run after her, it doesn't work without the stroller.
  • The only time we ever used ours was during swim classes and after I got her dressed and needed to change out of my bathingsuit I didn't want to let her run around a locker room so I would put her in it to contain her.
  • We use ours quite a bit... walks, shopping at the mall.  I would use it more if it had one of those baskets underneath and maybe a sun shade.  We were given it used by DH's co-worker, and it's just the cheap model.  We talk about buying a better umbrella stroller but just haven't done it yet.

  • We used it for airport travel to places we didn't need her nicer stroller (ie, not going on walks, or had one to borrow there). It's super lightweight and ours was like $10 from walmart so i'm not concerned about damage on a plane, etc.
  • Umbrella strollers are a must when you are travelling by plane.  Small lightweight strollers are quite convenient at the airport particularly when you are going through security.  I use our big stroller at the mall because of the storage, though.
