VBAC

Had my VBAC!

At my last Dr apt I was 3-4cm and my Dr wanted to induce me by breaking my water at exactly 41 weeks (this past Friday) and I pushed to wait through the weekend and she let me after a biophysical profile.  I passed the profile (they said my DD might be 8.5lbs) and the waiting began!

We went to dinner on Saturday and I had a few contractions but nothing timeable, I just felt off.  So, I went to bed and that is when I started having pretty strong and then timeable contractions so I started keeping track around 10 pm-- they were 1 min, 5 min apart.  So, we called nanna to come watch DD 1 and were at the hospital by 1220am, admitted by 1245 and in a room with my epi by 120.  The Dr on call broke my water and I tried to rest (after I told him about how much DD might weigh and he basically said if I couldn't birth DD 1 at 7 lbs he hoped it was wrong or I couldn't VBAC)....

Around 630/7 I was 9 cm and they gave me a top off to my epi.  At 830 it was time to start pushing and the epi was wearing off.  The new Dr on call was awesome and after about a half an hour DD #2 was born!  A healthy 8lbs 12oz!!

It was the most challenging and rewarding experience.  I didn't think I could do it!  It was amazing that the nurses at the hospital were so supportive and that at one of the morning safety meetings they were talking about my vbac.

*eyeroll* I hope he'll rethink his ideas after your successful VBAC. I'm glad he didn't get in the way!

  • I am so encouraged that you were able to have a VBAC with an epidural!  I was starting to think that one wouldn't be possible for me if I wanted a VBAC.  Great news all around.  Congratulations!

This recovery is quite different than with a C-section.  The pain is somewhat less just in different places that I think are more uncomfortable.

I was so mad at the Dr that it made me want a VBAC even more, I am so glad that he was not the one to deliver!

  • congrats!!
