Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Ectopic and bloated-ness

OK, this is gross but for some reason, I rather ask all of you instead of the doctor tomorrow.

Anyways, I had the surgery on Saturday and for the life of me, I have not had a bowel movement since.  I really don't have the stomach muscles to use, but it has been since Saturday and I am so bloated that it is uncomfortable.  Anyone else have the same thing happen?

Re: Ectopic and bloated-ness

  • I had a similar thing happen to me.  I think it took me about 5 days after my surgery to go.  From what I understand, I think it has something to do with the pain meds and staying in bed.

I hope that everything goes well with your appointment tomorrow.  :)

  • I felt VERY bloated and even had gas pain throughout my whole body.  It took a few days to have a bowel movement.

  • I had this happen to me too because of all the pain meds I was on.  Eat lots of fiber and drink lots of water.  It may take a few days to get regulated.  GL.

  • I agree with PP it took me a few days after to have a BM. The bloated feeling and gas is also because they pump ya full of air when they do surgery. You might even get pain in your shoulder from it. So sorry for your loss. Where was you EP located?

Thanks everyone!  Helps to know I am not the only one.  The doctor did mention about the air and my whole body being sore.  My had pains in my shoulders and back for a day or two after the surgery.   I had a little BM today and I was way too excited about it!

My EP was in my left tube and ruptured.  I went in for my appt. and the doctor took a picture with her camera and showed it to me.  It was huge, the tube was a little bigger than my ovary.  They said they weren't able to detect it on my first US because it ruptured right through the tube and out of it, so they didn't see it anywhere and didn't notice anything until my betas kept rising.....

  • I'm going through ectopic (or missed abortion) now and wanted to know why you ladies chose the surgery instead of methotrexate or D&C?  I have to make my decision tomorrow and I'm leaning towards the injection or even D&C.  Surgery will be my last option (no rupture).
  • I didn't have a choice I had already started bleeding my tube was hours from rupturing. Also a D&C won't help if baby is in not in your uterus.

  • Same with me, was not a choice at all!  I went in to the ER thinking I was getting the injection but then they found out that it ruptured, so I had to get it done.
  • Don't know if you had your doctor's appointment already or not, but the bloated-ness is completely normal. Not sure if the doctor told you, but they inflate your stomach with gas to make the surgery easier (I had it done in december, right tube ruptured) so it has to make its way out of the body.
