June 2011 Moms

where?

Where do you feel the baby?

I swear I felt something really different today but it was about 3 inches over from my belly button and down about an inch. (I'm a very petite 100lbs). I know it is still very early so I'm ok with it not being the baby... wishful thinking.

Thanks ladies.

Re: where?

  • I don't want this to come off wrong, but unless you're measuring far ahead, your uterus isn't even that high yet.  At 16 weeks, the fundus (top of the uterus) is halfway between your belly button and your pubic bone.  So an inch down from your belly button won't be your uterus yet - my guess would be gas.

  • That may just be gas....like pp said, that is kinda high, especially for how far along you are. I wanna say I'm still feeling her 3 inches below my belly button.

  • Thanks ladies. I figured it was just wishful thinking. Just needed a little direction on where I should be 'looking'.

  • Though if you are extremely short like me (4'10) it should be about 2 inches down. You should be able to feel where it is. Try pressing down a bit around the area you think its at and feel for the edges of the uterus. Don't worry, you wont hurt the baby--the doctors do this all the time. Just don't shove your hand on it or something.

  • There you go getting my hopes up. ('m only 5'2)

I can't feel my uterus, might just be that I don't know what to feel for.

  • I don't know about this. I'm not that short, 5'4, but I have a pretty short torso. Even at my 15 week appointment, dr was getting the heartbeat pretty much right at my belly button or just below. But I've only got about 3 inches between my pelvic bone and my belly button!

It's my first baby, but I've felt what I'm sure are flutters (I've felt plenty of gas and it feels very different!) an inch or so down from my belly button, but off to the side, just about every other day for the past week and half or so.

to me, it literally feels like a faint tapping feeling on the inside of my uterus.  the first time or two I wasn't sure, but after feeling it a bunch, I know that's what it is.

  • At my 16 week appointment my uterus was above my belly button and I have a normal torso.. I was shocked. I measured my fh (bc i am short) and it was over 18 cm which is normal for 20 weeks. Your uterus could totally be at your belly button just measure from your pubic bone to your belly button and see what it is.

However 16 weeks is EARLY to feel anything. My doc told me that most women feel something between 18 and 22 for the first time.

  • From what I've read and from what my Dr has told me, your fundus should average about an inch each month, so to measure start at your pubic bone and go up. Right now my fundus is about 4 inches tall, and that puts it right about an inch below my belly button, I'm 5'3". I don't feel movement up there but thats because LO like to stay really low.
  • I guess this will go on my list of questions for my Dr. I have an appointment tomorrow. Thanks again for all of the information.
