Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Here again...

Hello ladies -

I'm a long time lurker due to a hectic schedule, but I found a lot of support here after my second loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to each and every one of you.  This is just a horrible thing to go through, and no one should have to go through it alone.

A little about me: I'm 30 and DH and I have been trying for our first since June of 2008 (detailed history in siggy).  Even though I tried to be positive about this pregnancy, I sort of knew from early on that things were not going well.  I had pretty low betas, and my 6w u/s showed I was a week behind schedule.  The dr. was optimistic, though, and said that maybe our timing was just off.  Since I had a hcg trigger shot, though, I didn't really think that was possible.  Anyway, we waited until today (8 weeks) for another ultrasound to see if things had progressed.  Unfortunately, no progress.  Still measuring just 5 weeks.  I'll have a D&C on Thursday, which makes me nervous.  My previous 2 m/c were natural and not much worse than a heavy period.

Here's a strange, sort of TMI question, though.  DH and I haven't had sex since bfp b/c I was terrified of spotting.  I know after the D&C we will have to wait a couple of weeks.  Is there any reason not to go ahead before Thursday?  I've had absolutely no spotting or anything.

TIA

Re: Here again...

  • I'm so sorry for your loss :(

I am not sure about your question - I would only worry about the cervix being opened?  I would call your doc and ask just to be safe, but if you haven't been spotting it's probably fine.

Not sure if it's typical or not but my doc actually said no sex for 4 weeks after the D&C - just a heads up.   If it's okay - you may want to "stock up" this week b/c it may be awhile  Embarrassed

  • I'm so sorry for you loss. My D&C was the day after I found out about my loss so needless to say, I wasn't in the mood. I wouldn't see why it would be an issue, but like lavirl said, I'd call just to make sure. My doctor told me 2 weeks before having sex after my D&C and that was long enough for me to 1) stop bleeding and 2) emotionally get over the loss enough that I could have sex again. I hope everything goes okay and if you have any questions or anything about the D&C, feel free to PM me.
  • First off I want to say I am sorry for your loss.  It is an awful thing to go through.    I had a d&c 2 weeks ago and it wasn't bad at all.  I had no cramping and minimal bleeding.  I am still lightly spotting and dr. said that could be another 4 weeks of that.....grrrrr.....but everyone is different.  We have to wait 4 weeks to have intercouse to make sure cervix is closed and not cause any infection.  LIke lavril said you might want to call your dr. just to be safe because you wouldn't want the cervix to be open.  GL on Thurday and if you ever need to talk we are here to listen.

  • Thank you all for your responses.  I know it's a weird question, since I shouldn't even feel like having sex.  I will just call them in the am, though.  They are so slow about calling back with any type of response, that we'll probably miss the window.  Everything I can find online is about after the D&C, of course.

Again, thank you for responding.  It helps just to "talk" about it.
