Anyone have a LO born with a concave head?

I know my title of my post sounds drastic. When Abby was born, her head was really concave. The pedi's in the hospital reffered us to a cranial facial specialist at our local Children's hospital. They all believed that it was due to her position in utero. Abby was always really low in my pelvis and head down since practically the beginning.

Here is a pic of her right after she was born:

Since her birth, her head has filled out, but there is still a slight concave, but not as severe. This is currently how we are telling them apart. At their first pedi visit, our pedi said that it wasn't necessary for us to go to Children's and that we will just monitor for a couple of months and if necessary, then go to Children's for a specialist to take a look.

Part of me wants to trust the pedi and be patient and wait, but, on the other hand, I want to talk with a specialist who deals with this day in and out just for the peace of mind.

So, if you were in my shoes, what would you do? Wait it out and see where her head is in a few months or go to the specialist for an early evaulation? I am so torn and just need some guidance from some other MoM's who may have gone through this.

wow- that is severe! But it's amazing how much their heads can change in such a short time.

Griffin's head was shaped like a candy cane when he came out... my husband and mom were really concerned - you can see it in their faces in the pics of the birth... they didn't say a word to me - i didn't notice b/c i was half asleep through it all.... by the next morning it had rounded out and  DH really thought they brought us a different baby (he was born at 1:40... so by 7am to be so rounded seemed impossible!).  We joked that they sat and rubbed his head all night :)

I would give it a couple weeks... their heads are still very soft and shaping for a long time - they are not really done until 2y/o.... so you have plenty of time. See how it's going and in a couple weeks if you are still concerned - then i'd see a specialist - for peace of mind if nothing else.

I would definitely go to the specialist.  I don't think going "isn't trusting your pedi", first and foremost you have to do what you think is best for your kids.

I am in sort of the same boat.  I've been waiting and waiting and hoping that my DS's head would get better (he has an extremely flat head in the back) but it just isn't so I opted for the second opinion and our appointment is this Friday.  What's the worst that could happen if you don't wait and visit the specialist?  Not much, so that's why I'm doing it.

Hmm, if it were me, i would probably go ahead and see the specialist now--or maybe wait two more weeks and then go (since the specialist might be able to give a more informed opinion once s/he sees what would happen naturally?), just for peace of mind.

I listened to my ped about my daughters head being flat in the back, until I knew if we waited any longer for it to change on its own...it may not. We got lucky and even though she was already 10 months when she started wearing her DOC band, it made all the difference. I would call and see the doctors just for your own peace of mind, but your LO is so little and they change really quickly when they are so tiny. Good Luck, God Bless.
