I can't make up my mind if I want to purchase a changing table or have the extra space and save the $$. My nephew is 7 months and is almost out grown his! What is everyone else doing?
Im not getting a changing table, its a waste of space to me. I plan on getting a low dresser and putting a changing pad on it and when s/he grows out of it Im just going to throw a towel down on the bed or floor or w/e and change the diaper there.
I got a changing pad for on top of the baby's dresser. We don't have room for a seperate change table. My mom said she used to change us in the crib but she's more than half a foot taller than me- I think I'd probably hurt my back doing that a lot- especially as the it needs to be moved further and further down. Also, with a little boy, for the odd 'pee during diaper change' mishap, I'd rather be able to change the change pad cover and wipe up the dresser than have to change the crib.
No you don't. It makes it easier on your back, but a couch, bed, floor etc works just as well. I know someone who's LO rolled off of it while she was holding his leg and he ended up breaking his leg (he probably wouldn't have been as badly hurt if she had let him fall, but I would have also held on) and because of that a few of the mom's in our group refuse to use them now.
I still use mine with my DD. I don't think it has to be a changing table, but a dresser with a changing pad on it would work the same way. I like that I don't have to bend down to change DD and everything need to diaper change in one place.
No! In the beginning, we just used the changing table that came with our pack and play. DD eventually began rolling and that was over. We then moved on to using couches and beds as changing tables.
I would have to say it is personal preference I have heard both and going to do the low dresser but my sister still with her youngest being 2 she still changes her on the changing table every time in her room I believe she feels the convience of her product and also it has become habit. so I say whatever you think!
A lot of people don't use changing tables, but I really NEED one. I use mine for every diaper change at home, for getting dressed, for lotioning after a bath, for clipping finger/toenails, and for administering medicine. Probably a few other things, too. My DD turned 1 last week and she has not outgrown it, even though she's at the top of the charts for her height. I don't plan to stop using it anytime soon.
I didn't have one for nine months, we used the PNP to change her but then there wasn't room for the PNP downstairs so we bought a changing table and all her clothes, diapers, wipes, shoes, and socks fit on it. There is no way I could change her in the crib because I am way too short.

All of that can also be done on a waist-high dresser, and that is a multitasker.
It is definitely not needed. But we did buy one- it's pretty tall and big. I still change DD on it. And this time it's being moved into our room and will store bibs, onesies, blankets, diapers, etc. I'm glad we ended up with one, but it definitely takes up space. A lot of people just change babies on the floor, but I have some back issues and that's not really an option for me.
After 2 miscarriages and a pre-term birth (34 weeks gestation due to PROM), our healthy baby girl is growing up fast!
3 more miscarriages and finally a correct diagnosis (septate uterus) and a corrective uterine surgery later, our second blessing is here!

This- except my LO is almost 2! He is definitely taller than the changing table, but we still use it comfortably. We got it used so it has certainly been worth the $50 we spent on it.
I mounted my changing pad to a waist high dresser. Put a shelf up for lotions & other things in a basket on it and mounted a 3 level wall mounted magazine rack from IKEA for diapers, spare garbage bags for the diaper pail, and other storage. Can reuse all with 2.0 and will "grow with" the LO, not be useless once they are done in diapers.
Originally we were not buying one. Towards the end I decided to get one. We just bought a storage unit from IKEA and then put the changing pad on top. When our daughter stopped getting changed on the pad we just took it off and put her lamp and sound machine on it. Now it's a book shelf and stores some of her toys. We will have to find a new space so we can reuse it for the new baby. I just bought decorative storage bins for the shelves. Some just put the pad on top of a dresser. We owned a 2 bedroom condo when we had our daughter and I always took her in there to change her. We have moved since then, but still live in a single story home, so I will still take the baby to it's room when they need changed. If you have a 2 story home and plan to have a pack-in-play downstairs with the changing area on it, then you probably really don't need a changing table since most of the changing will happen downstairs.
Everyone told me I didn't need one, but I got one anyway...only it goes on top of her dresser.
She's 18 months old and I still use it to this day. I'm 5'10 and it's so much easier to get her dressed and change her on a raised surface.Especially now that I'm KU again.
No. We have a waist-high dresser with a changing pad on it. No frame or anything, straps cut off, just the pad.
That's what we did, too.
I had friends tell me not to bother with anything like that, that we'd just end up changing the baby on the floor or on our bed ... and I'm so glad I didn't listen to them. It's so nice having everything right at hand and not having to bend over to do any of the changing.
We bought a dresser like PP with a changing table area on top. My DS is 4 y/o now so we still have him using the dresser and have put his tv in the space where the changing pad went. We're going to do the same for LO
