I've seen more coyotes in my yard today than I have in the past 6 years combined. I have no idea what is going on but they are very interested in something around here. I've seen 3 large coyotes walking around my front and back yards 3 separate times--they come within about 20 feet of our house. Other than today, I have only ever seen one coyote and that one stayed to the back of our yard (our back yard is 3 acres so it wasn't that close to the house.) They also didn't seem as timid as they are supposed to be--normally they should run from people. I opened the front door to scare them away and that didn't phase them a bit.
I'm debating whether I want to call the DNR to trap them or call a private company to remove them. Or maybe I should just mention their presence to our neighor, who is an avid big game hunter. Maybe they will just disappear in the night. (wink, wink)
Re: Coyotes circling my house several times today
Do you have rabbits or something in your yard? Are you getting snow? Maybe they had to come closer to look for food.
That would freak me out though.
Yes, mention them to you neighbor. He might want to trap, or kill them (you know, with a gun that peeps in these parts don't believe in!). Their fur might right now might worth a little bit. Raccoons right now are in these parts
If they aren't timid, they might be overpopulated (or rabid?!), and possibly have mange, therefore not making their fur worth much..
I would def be looking into some sort of population control. The BF would gladly come take care of them for you.
Do you have a pet?
I'd call someone to come trap them and move them. I've seen one next to my house one time, and he was just passing through so it didn't bother me much. It would bother me if there were multiple ones around my house for an entire day.
Sam is obsessed with coyotes. He would love to see some in real life. We have just heard them here.
I would be nervous. Maybe it is worth a call just to hear what they say?
Yes to all the questions--we have 2 weimaraners, we are getting snow and we do have rabbits and other small animals around here. All of our neighors have 15-35 acres each, so we are more wooded and houses are spread out. I know that coyotes are back in our woods but there has always been plenty of food so they have never had to come up by our houses.
The other time I saw one was the morning I took our dog to be spayed. As luck would have it, she had come into season a couple days earlier. I let her outside to go to the bathroom just before taking her to the vet. Within 5 minutes of her urinating, the coyote was in our yard, so obviously the scent of a dog in heat drew him in. That one was understandale. Today had been really odd.
I've been trying to get video of them--I'll email a clip to Sam if I get any good shots.
You have no idea how much he would love that! Everything is coyote this, coyote that. I don't know where it started, but its been going on for two years now!
By any chance is there a dead animal out there?
