Push Present?

Re: Push Present?

  • DH asked me what I wanted after dd was born.  I told him I didn't want anything.  However after I'm done having children and bf'd (we plan on 4.)  I will be getting a tummy tuck and a lift.  We joke around about those things being my one combined present.  Flame me if you want but after having 4 kids and bf'd for I'm sure what will be at least 6 maybe 7 years combined, I will more than likely really want them.

  • Yes, PUSH presents are pretty standard where I'm from. DH got me a new diamond wedding band for my push present. He always hated the original one, but we were married young, so I told him for another big event, he could have it redone one day. Big Smile It's beautiful! And it's really sweet that he went to so much trouble on something so special. I'll wear it everyday not only as a symbol of our marriage, but also as a '"enewed" symbol of our lives beginning as parents.

My other friends have received dimond earrings, bracelets with the babies birth stone, a David Yurman Charm bracelet with the babies name on a charm...etc.

My husband had a really expensive pair of diamond earrings in his pocket for me when I was in labour with our daughter.  Then I had to have an emergency c-section, and while I was being cut open, he took them back to the jewelry store.  "No pushing, no present!" is what he said as he left the hospital.  I'm scheduled for a repeat c-sec in April, and he's already told me I'm not getting anything this time, either.

Oh well.  I suppose a healthy baby will be a good enough gift for me.

    Confused

Really? And you think this is funny? I don't know anybody who has received a "push present" but I'm not against the idea either...however for him to have gotten you a present and returned it because you had a c-section? Is he suggesting he is disappointed in you? Some women actually have issues after having a c-section because they feel like their bodies let them down so for him to do that seems like a pretty douchey thing to do. And like having a c-section is the easy way out anyways? Much harder is some aspects. And I certainly hope you are joking thay he was returning them while you were in surgery...sounds like a real peach...

You two aren't too good with sarcasm, are you?  Of course this didn't actually happen.  I did have an emergency c-section, that's true.  DH got me flowers later that day but I certainly didn't EXPECT a gift and I sure as hell wouldn't call it a "push present" if I told him I wanted something.  I think the whole idea of a "push present" is silly.

  • as a gift i'd like a necklace I saw that has the baby's name and birth date on it.

IMHO, the biggest critics of "push presents" are those that are least likely to receive one.  I don't know why else they would be so critical of other's choices.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard b/c we all know the majority of women who receive "push presents" had to ask or "hint" for them.
