Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

It's been a month and a half...

I've been lurking in the threads, reading a lot and leaving a few comments here and there and I thought I'd leave my story.

I got pregnant sometime in the end of June and found out just after my father in laws Bday in July. I didn't have insurance at the time but when to the doctors anyway and got checked out and everything looked good. I didn't have any morning sickness, no major cravings, I always kept saying that my pregnancy was so boring... I knew from the very beginning that it was a boy - just KNEW it and I was right. I was 13 weeks pregnant when I got married in September. Everything was going well - sort of. In the process of switching to my husband's insurance policy, they messed up the paperwork and I went almost 10 weeks without prenatal care. I wasn't able to go to my mid pregnancy u/s till I was 22 weeks. I was supposed to go at 18 weeks.

We went to the ultrasound together, heard the heart and what not and the ultrasound tech excused herself from the room for a minute, came back and told us it was a boy, finished the u/s and sent us on our way.

2 days later my OB calls me, says "the ultrasound tech said she saw something in the baby's chest and couldn't see one of his lungs clearly, we want to get another u/s from high risk" and so I did. the following week, on the 23 of Nov, we go to the high risk doc and they perform my u/s, again the tech walks out. Comes back shows me 3d u/s pics and stuff. The doctor comes in a floors us. He had a lvl 2 CCAM, congenital cystic adenamatoid malformation, a tumor of lung tissue that can't be used as lung. It was pushing his heart to the other side of his chest and taking up about half of a lung. The prognosis was poor, as long as he was inside me, he didn't need air and was fine. As soon as he was born (at term), he'd need to be in nnicu and be on a respirator and at best from there, have a 50/50 shot at survival. we were CRUSHED. My first born, my son, only alive while inside me. And through the whole appointment the little thing was kicking like a wild man.

The next day, my hubby called out to be with me, and around 11, I went into active labor...I went to L&D and they told me they couldn't stop my labor. I was 23 weeks ish. He was born at 310 am on thanksgiving morning. He was due march 20th...

  • Thank you so much for sharing your story, and I am so sorry for your loss.  I was due March 28th, and I also had a boy.  We found out at 21 w that he had fetal hydropsy after not seeing a heartbeat.  our story is similar in that at the anatomy scan (at 18 w), the tech kept saying she couldn't see anything internally--but no one caught it until my next appt 3 weeks later...when the ob couldn't find the hb.  i am so sorry for you and your DH and your little boy.  my d & e was the day before thanksgiving.  if you ever need to talk to just vent, the women on this board are extremely helpful and supportive!  it sucks we are all here, but we are making a great support system.  {{big hugs}} and if you ever want to chat, pm me.

  • They told me that if I had gone in at 18 weeks they could have started me on a labor preventative because at the high risk u/s they noticed my cervix was already shortening. Next time I have to have progesterone shots starting at 16 weeks to keep from having a repeat preterm birth. I was lucky too, he was born head first in only a few pushes. He weighed 1 pound and 6 ounces. He looked just like my husband.
