f/u to anatomy scan

Went to the perinatalogist this afternoon.  They see nothing else wrong with the baby so they believe that the cyst will go away on it's own.  The only way to determine if something is wrong definitely is to have an amnio.

Of course my Drs office called me right after lunch and said, you need to go now to the hospital for the appt.  They forgot to call and tell everyone who had appts that they had them.  So MH couldn't go with me.  The Dr made me feel comfortable that nothing was wrong...but I'm not sure MH feels the same.  He thinks we should do the amnio. Decisions decisions.

Re: f/u to anatomy scan

  • I'm so happy to hear that nothing else is wrong and the cyst is likely to go away.  What is the time frame that you have to have the amnio in?  Do you have to have it right away or can you wait a few weeks, have another u/s and then have amnio if you decide to?  That is definitely a tough decision.  (((hugs)))

  • I am so sorry you guys are having to go through this and make this decision.

That is great that they found nothing more though and hopefully it just goes away like they are thinking.

Continuing to send prayers your way.

  • glad to hear they don't think it is anything to worry about. Best of luck and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers

  • Great news that they don't see anything else wrong! That's awesome!

You'll be in my thoughts as you and your hubs decide whether to do the amnio or not!

  • I am so happy that the doctor thinks that the cyst should resolve on it is own, but I completely understand your H frustrations and concerns.  I am sure that you will make the decision that is right for you.  Do you have a specific time frame you have to make the decision in?

  • I'm glad the doctor didn't see a need to be concerned.

Just as anecdote, when my friend's sister was pregnant with her second the doctor saw a cyst in/on (?) the baby's brain.  She was told the same thing you were...there was no need for concern.  When he was born he was completely healthy and the cyst has disappeared.

  • You know...I didn't even ask if we had to do the amnio w/in a certain period of time.  MH and I will talk it over tonight and if we decide to do it, I guess I'll call my Dr in the am.  If there was no risk at all, I would do it in a heartbeat. But because she said the risk is great to do an amnio is greater than the risk that there is even something wrong, makes me second guess it.

Check with the facility that would be doing your amnio - most places have very low risks associated with these nowadays.  The facility where I would have had one done is only 1 in 1000 for m/c.  I totally agree that if the risk of m/c due to the amnio is greater than the risk that anything is wrong I wouldn't do the amnio.  But that number might set your mind at ease if you do decide to go forward with it.

Hmm...I wonder who would do it. I assumed this Dr (perinatalogist at the hospital) would have been the one to do it.

  • I'm really glad to hear that the doc thinks the cyst is going to fix itself. Good luck deciding with your husband tonight. I hope that you both can reach a decision that you are both comfortable with.

    T and P.

  • I'm glad that everything else looks good for your baby.  Amnio is a tough decision.   I'll send T&P to you and YH as you discuss your decision.  FWIW, my cousin did amnio and she now has a healthy 1 year old girl.  I know you'll do what you and your husband feel is best for your baby and it will be the right choice for you all- whatever it is.

When I went in to Boston for my Level II u/s, they genetic counselor told me that at ANY point in the pregnancy from that moment on I could choose to do an amnio. There was only a time-sensitive issue if I was going to terminate depending on the results, based on the law in Massachusetts regarding late term abortion. I'm with you on the idea that if the risk of m/c is greater than the risk that something is wrong, skip the amnio. But, peace of mind is also priceless. Whatever you guys decide is the right decision!

  • Good luck with your decision, whichever you choose.  From what others are saying, it sounds like the odds are absolutely in your favor that everything is just fine!

  • I wasn't on here much yesterday so I'm just reading this now.  Sounds like there's a big chance that things could be perfect!  I asked MH (the radiologist) if he had any thoughts about this and he said pretty much the same thing....its not uncommon to see them at this stage and most of them are gone by birth.  If its not gone by birth, its usually just a small procedure to remove it.

Good luck with your decision and I'll keep you all in my prayers!
