So I put B for a nap, and I was all excited to make some chocolate chip cookies.
I have a box mix, I know not the best but good enough for me! It calls for 1 stick of butter and I only have about 3/4 a stick.
Should I make them anyway? Will they be any good? Can I substitute something?!
All I wanted was a damn cookie.
Re: Recipe help/substitution
If it were me, I'd go for it.
But if you have it you can sub applesauce for butter.
applesauce shouldn't be substitued for butter, only oil. And it doesn't really work in a cookie. You probably don't have margarin or crisco, do you?
Nope.
I 100% disagree. Applesauce is actually a great substitute (and a secret weapon for many) for butter and oil that greatly reduces the calories and fat of the resulting dish.
You could use the 3/4 of the stick of butter you do have and add 1/8 of a cup of applesauce or just go ahead and use a half cup of applesauce and omit the butter all together.
FWIW, I often sub applesauce for butter and oil in baked goods and DH actually prefers the applesauce version almost all of the time.
ETA: I have never been able to taste the applesauce in anything I have ever made with it.
