Cloth Diapering

Need some recs

So LO is starting to Potty learn through frequent EC (she burns really easily even in cloth). So I'm thinking ahead to LO2. I'm planning on CDing from the beginning (we didn't start with J until 3 or 4 months and then not full time). So I have no experience CDing a newborn or about hospital care. I'm planning this far in advance so that I can buy all the diapers I need over the next 2.5 years. CDs are a little pricey for our budget!

I currently use flats stuffed with an insert and Econobum covers. I would much rather go with pockets or AIOs or even fitteds with covers. Given the time-frame, I'm just now actually considering AIOs. I had some Babyland pockets that I liked, but the inserts had to be wrapped with a flat diaper or they would leak. The elastic recently went out. I also have two BG3s, which I do like. AIOs just seem easier. So for the newborn stage, I'm either considering Pro-wraps or Rumparoos Lil Joeys. Please share your experiences and recs. I've made some mistakes with CDs this time around and hope to never have to buy sposies next time.

ETA** I plan to breastfeed again also.

Re: Need some recs

  • For the nb stage, I used a combination of prefolds, fitteds (KL0s and VeryBaby), and sized pockets. For me (and this, as you well know, will not be universal), the sized pockets worked out best.

  • With dd, we used prefolds and covers because she was so tiny. This time around, we're using fitteds and covers. Dd didn't fit into her os pockets until she was 3 months old, so keep that in mind if you go the os route! (most say the os start to fit around 10lbs) now, we use pockets and aios for daycare and fitteds at home. I don't really like our aios because you can't adjust the absorbency and they take forever to dry.
