Misoprostol Not Working :(

Chapter 37 of what must be one of the longest, most drawn out miscarriages ever. For those of you who haven't been following my story, I've known for weeks that I was going to miscarry (this is my second). I've spent the past three weeks waiting for the heartbeat to stop so I could be treated and was finally given Misoprostol by my OB last week. I intentionally waited until the weekend to start the medication so I wouldn't start bleeding and cramping at work, but I'm halfway through my prescription and....nothing. I'm having extremely minor, period like cramps, but that's it. I'm out of vacation time thanks to the holidays so I'm really trying to avoid a D&C but unless my body does a complete 180 within the next day, it looks inevitable. Has anyone else taken Misoprostol and had it not work?

Oh my goodness - you poor thing.  I'm so sorry this has been such a horrible and drawn-out experience for you.  I've never taken that so I can't help you, but you'll be in my T&P!

I have been following you and Yes I took it and it stopped working the next day and I was prescribed more which then turned into this horrible thing in and out of the ER with contractions all kinds of complications.  If you really really do not want the D&C then call your OB and see what they say, they may call in another prescription for you.  I hope that this all goes fast for you with out complications.  ill keeop you in my thoughts tonight.

I've been on an off the boards, so I'm not familiar with your story, but I just wanted to let you know that I feel the same way about my LONG (2.5 months) m/c. However, I never got to see a heartbeat, or wait for one to stop.  I'm so terribly sorry for your loss.  I hope your body gets the message and begins the process very soon.

I'm so sorry you're going through this and I relate (though my story is different). I needed to take misoprostol this weekend to help extract some retained tissue from my m/c 3 weeks ago. I did as you did - waited for the weekend and prepared myself for the worst after reading and hearing the experiences of other women. In fact, I couldn't sleep because I was so worried about the pain! 

So I took a dose and... nothing. I took a second dose on Sunday and again... nothing. You're right - it IS FRUSTRATING! I'll have another ultrasound on Thursday and then we'll play by ear on a possible "mini" D&C.

I hope something happens for you soon.
