I'm an internal auditor as well. I've been doing internal audit for over 7 years now, mostly for large financial institutions. What area of the country do you live in?
I spent 5 years in external audit at a Big 4 firm. I left to do external reporting/accounting policy at a company that was going public and then left again to do the same thing for a different company going public.
I am an accountant as well and do financial reporting (external) for a major public company. I guess I like it (I secretly do NOT believe in anyone loving their job - like, every single day , whatever they say, so I think I have it good) - it comes pretty easy to me, I am good at it, I get promoted at a steady pace and it pays the bills. Sometimes I secretly wish I did something else and dream about going back to school, but in reality I have it pretty good, so I will stick to it for now.
I'm an auditor too. Spent 6 years in Big 4 & consulting before I went into industry. I'm in IT Audit. It's boring but it pays the bills. DH works for an internal audit consulting firm (we met at work) so we have some really nerdy conversations!
Nice to see some other accountant/auditor types out there. I am in the Chicago suburbs. I actually think my job is interesting - I like looking at different processes all the time. But I don't LOVE it.
Re: Accountants/Auditors?
I'm an accountant for a private company. It's not my dream job, but unfortunately I'm good at it, so it pays the bills.
