Off to my first BFing class!

I hope I am able to learn a lot AND retain the information for when the time comes!  It is a free class offered by my birthing center and I figured why not?  I'm sure I'll be the only one with a tiny bump in the class! :)

Re: Off to my first BFing class!

  • I know my hospital offers all sorts of classes, but I guess I need to start looking at signing up.  They told us at an early appointment to start registering for classes around 20 weeks, and here we are... thanks for the reminder!  Good luck with your class!

start signing up now  because I thought 20 weeks as too early and they were booked. I wound up doing a class a  nurses house who did them when I was 30 weeks. Well PTL hit a week later and had DD at 34 weeks.

As for the BF class what a lot of videos online.I learned a lot from them.

  • Let us know how it goes! I'm trying to decide if I am going to take one. I grew up with my mom who is a lactation consultant, and will be around all of the time, so part of me feels like I know a lot about it already-and truly, practice is what's going to help, right?

  • i hope you learn a ton!

Our hospital offers a couples class and a ladies only class. I'm trying really hard to convince DH that he need to come with me. He thinks that it would be silly since he can't BF the baby.

  • We are due to start our first baby class (birthing, breast feeding, newborn care all in one) next sunday.  The hospital suggests finishing 6-8 wks. before your due date, def. a little early.  But that's the only class that fits our schedule since we live about 2 hrs. give or take from the hospital we're delivering at.  So Wednesdays at 6-9 doesn't really work for us...Sundays 1-4 for the 6 wk class is better.  I was embarassed but I just don't care anymore.

  • The class was great!  I learned SO much by going and feel a lot more confident than I did before I left.  I was concerned about pain since my sister quit her first time around and the second time just put up with really bad pain.  But now I know it shouldn't be painful after the first 3 days!  There was a couple with a 9 day old baby that were having a hard time getting their baby to eat for more than 5 minutes at a time.  It was cool to hear from a new mom experiencing it first hand.  We also talked about what to expect the first few weeks and what you need for a new baby.  Like I suspected, I was the smallest bump of the group!
