Cribs- how early? How did it go?

Happy sunday to everyone! So since we brought the babies home three weeks ago, we have been sleeping one baby downstairs in the pack and play, and our other daughter on the couch...  I know..not ideal, but she sleeps better on the couch.

Our bedroom is upstairs and our night nurse has been sleeping downstairs with them. Last night was her last night, and I want to try putting both of them upstairs tonight in their separate cribs. Not sure how it will go, and it will be a pain because the bottles are downstairs. So I'll have to run up and down for right now with them screaming probably all night. When did you put your newborns in their cribs and how did it go? Getting nervous about how this will go down later.. ha ha!  Thanks for your input!

  • What about getting one of those formula dispensers where you can measure out the formula ahead of time and then just dump it into the bottle?  Then you could prefill the bottles with water so all you'll have to do in the middle of the night is dump the powder in and shake?   Or are you pumping?

My twins aren't here yet, but DS started sleeping in his crib at 3 months old and did GREAT!  Go for it.  If they've been sleeping seperatly downstairs I'm sure they will do fine upstairs. ;)  Good luck!

  • We put ours in their cribs at about 2 months.  They shared a crib for about 3 weeks then we moved them into their own cribs.  Transition was fine.

  • We have one of those Dr Browns small pitchers where I can premix the formula with water... but then when I pour it in the bottles in the middle of the night it will be cold and I'll have to warm it. Pain..hmm....   Maybe I'll do what you said and just premeasure out the powder ahead of time and I can just add the water so it's room temperature and make it on demand. We'll see how it goes!!
  • The first few days I had too much trouble going up stairs due to my c-section but they've been in their seperate cribs since day 3 or 4. I'm so happy we did this. We never had to deal with any transitions.

We give bottles @ room temp. In the beginning we'd fill all the bottles for the night with water and bring them to their room upstairs along with the tubs of formula. When they needed a bottle in the middle of the night we just added the formula to the bottles. There was no need to run up and down the stairs. They'll get used to it @ room temp.

I don't mean to judge or flame but please consider the safety of having a baby sleeping on the couch.

  • We put our twins in a crib on day 1.  They shared a crib for 3m and then moved to their own cribs.  I'm sure yours will do fine in cribs.  GL!

  • We did cribs from day 1.  We have a one story house so running to the fridge in the middle of the night is not a problem but, if I had a 2 story house, I'd either put a cheap mini fridge in my bedroom or just bring an ice chest upstairs at night with the bottles I'd need, and have bottle warmers in the bathroom.  We have 2 little bottle warmers that use steam that are quick and easy.

Good idea!!! This is exactly what I will do I think. I'll just keep all of that upstairs so I don't have to run down the stairs.  That way I can mix them really fast in their room. Nervous about this night duty tonight.. ugh.  Guess this officially starts my sleepless nights. Oh... no we only had one baby sleeping on the couch while our night nurse was here- and she never left the room. EVER. They were rolling into each other in the pack and play.  We plan on sleeping them in the cribs tonight and hopefully from now on.

  • We moved them out of the PnP in our room into their cribs bwtn 3-4 wks.  The first night I put them in the same crib foot to foot and one was inching over and kind of kicking the other, so after that they each went in their own crib.  I thought they seemed so tiny to be in the crib alone, but they were fine.
