Hey Girls,
I know most people don't have this worry, but I am worried that i'm not gaining ENOUGH weight. I am 19 weeks and I have only gained 9 lbs. I have struggled to gain weight most of my life and since I had the flu a couple of weeks ago, I have stopped gaining weight. I feel like all I do is eat, but no LBs are going on. Anyone else have this issue? What has your doctor said. Mine hasn't seemed too concerned yet but I am.... THANKS Ladies
Re: Weight Gain ~ or Lack There Of
9 lbs is completely normal for only 19 weeks. Some of us haven't gained anything. (I'm still in the hole 6 lbs from morning sickness).
As long as you are eating healthy, that's all that matters
I'm also 19 weeks... I haven't been weighed since 16, but I really doubt i've gained any more than 9. I think I was +4 or 5 at 16, and although my belly has popped since then, I don't think I've gained too much.
My doctor said that my weight gain at 16 wks was fine.
Why are you concerned if your doctor isn't? I say just relax and try not to stress! Weight gain happens differently for EVERY woman. For example, one of my coworkers only gained a total of 10 lbs in the first two trimesters, and gained 18 in the third trimester alone.

9 lbs sounds great...I haven't gained anything really. I was down about 3 lbs at one point and I have been hovering around there for most of the pregnancy. I think I may be starting to gain a little here and there now though.
The rule of thumb around this neck of the woods (June 2011 Moms) is if your Dr isn't worried, you shouldn't be.
everyone's body is different and everyone needs to gain different amounts. If your doctor is cool with your weight gain or lack thereof, you should be too.
+1. 9 pounds is perfectly normal.
I worried about the same thing...I have only gained 4 pounds. My ob said different people gain weight at different times, the baby will get what it needs!
I think 9 lbs is fine but really depends on how you were prepregnancy. If you were underweight like me, the doc's will be "watching you and the baby" if weight gain is low. If you were overweight, then it really isn't that much a problem as long as you aren't purposely not wanting to gain weight by not eating or burning the calories you eat by working out like crazy. Just be sure to have a balanced diet with nutrient-densed foods and keep taking your prenatals. Most women only really need an extra 200-500 extra calories a day. And if you naturally just have a high metabolism then putting on weight might be a little difficult. I have a friend who was less than 100lbs prepregnancy and was not able to put on more than 15lbs during her pregnancy and still had a very healthy, beautiful 7lbs7oz baby boy.
If docs aren't worried, then I believe you shouldn't be either.
