Dry patches on face, help!

C has had some dry patches on her face, near her mouth. I know that it is from wiping her mouth after meals. She is a very messy eater/drinker and always gets food there and always needs a wipe. I just use plain water with a clean wash cloth. I guess combined with the cold weather, she has developed these dry patches.

I have been putting Aquaphor on the patches and it doesn't seem to be helping. Today they looked worse than ever. What should I use? TIA

  • DS had this so bad I ended up taking him to a dermatologist.  He said that the reason the skin around the mouth becomes so raw is because LO's saliva basically "eats" the skin.  He suggested putting aquaphor on BEFORE DS ate or drank anything to form a barrier agaist any saliva or moisture.  We also put LOTS of aquaphor on before putting him to bed.  It worked a treat and DS's skin was clear within a week.

This is great, thank you so much!

  • Ditto vasaline. FYI, the lip version is just regular vasaline with a little flavor - but I found DD is MUCH more tolerant in having it applied. I think she likes the lipstick-like applicator vs my finger. Plus, it gives a very light, even application, rather than the globs I could get while she squirmed.
