The beginning was a tad slow...I think after coming off the HG high especially...but then there's a twist that sends you right back into "hold your breath untill the end" mode.

I agree it starts slow. Once I got into it (I don't remember what page--damn kindle app doesn't have pages....), I read for 3.5 hours and completed it. The twist starts in about Section 3.
I haven't started the 3rd book but am looking forward to it.
The first book is definitely the best in the series by far. Catching Fire took me a little bit to get into but it eventually sucks you in like the first. The last one was my least favorite.
I had the hardest time with the last one. Kept reading because I needed to know what happened (mostly to see if she chose Gale or Peeta), but it didn't grab me like the first two.
