This name was one DH and I agreed on, although it came out of the blue and we haven't really discussed names much yet. He comes home tonight and says that his employees thought it was a girl's name when they first heard it, so now he's thinking it might not be the best name if we have a son. Since DH also thought it was a girl's name when he first heard it I will admit I have had some reservations, but otherwise really like the name.
FWIW, Augustus and Augustine are not contenders.
Since I can count on this board for honesty, do you think August is girly? Sure, he might have a nn of Gus or Auggie, but we didn't want to push a nn either.
Re: August?
I love this name and don't think it is girly at all. Although I guess traditionally month names are for girls.
Unfortunately my DH did not like August, nn Gus or it would be on our list.

Me either, but then again, my taste in names is very traditional.
I love August (and nn Gus)! I prefer it out of all of the August- names as well.
It is definitely a boy name, so I wouldn't let people who think it sounds a little feminine prevent you from using it.

I'm confused.
August is, in fact, a very traditional/classic name.

I don't care for August at all, and I don't find it particularly masculine.
Maybe traditional wasn't the right word for my taste in names. Some of my favorite names are Liam (DS's name), Noah, Owen, Ava, Abigail, Sophie, Olivia, maybe my taste is more common, popular names? I've always just called my taste in names traditional, but maybe that's not the right word.
Agreed. It is a very classic boys name. I think of the August Busch family-- although I am originally from St. Louis, so that is probably why.
Great name!
