hospital bag slippers

I don't know what's wrong with me.  Everyone says that I should take slippers to the hospital... and they've gotta have soles for walking & dodging hazards on the floor, so I can't get away with comfy socks alone... but for some bizarre reason I keep "saving them for later" in my Amazon shopping cart.  I think I'm feeling guilty for choosing nice slippers for myself after all of the $$$ we've spent on baby stuff.

So I'm stuck in this spot where I know I should have slippers of some sort, but I don't want to buy crappy slippers now just to save a few bucks, only to spend the money again when they fall apart in a couple months.  Ugh.  I should just buy the good ones, right?  (help me justify this purchase!!Devil

Re: hospital bag slippers

  • I wouldn't take anything *good* into the hospital with me.

There is nothing wrong with their comfy socks with rubber grippers at the bottom Smile They're free, just as effective, and it won't matter when a gush of gloppy blood comes squirting out of your undies on your way to the bathroom. Smile Sorry to be graphic but it happens!

  • technically, you don't need them. the hospital has footies that have rubber grip things on the.

but you do need them because they aren't very comfortable and you actually have to pull them off when you get into bed. i wouldn't wear them in my bed after walking on the floors with them. and slippers are easier to get on and off without bending over and touching them...

so yes, you really do need them because you don't want to be touching those hospital ones to get the m on and off and laying in bed and reaching for the baby, do you?

  • I threw mine out on our way out of the hospital. They were disgusting.
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I got some funky ones with pom poms on them, but since I was in the hospital so long I ended up using their socks w. grippers for the most part and won't be bringing my own this time.  I'll probably still bring some kind of flip flops though (wish I didn't get rid of my old Adidas slip ons from decades ago!).

  • fwiw I left my nice slippers at home and just got some of these:

    https://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1647001&categoryId=cat1500036

my nice ones are more fitted and would have been uncomfortable after my c/s with all the swelling so the slip on ones were nice for that, plus they weren't super expensive so I didn't feel bad if they got a stain on them or I lost them or something. They do have the little non slip tread thingys on them too.

  • How much are the slippers?

I would get them but not for L&D. for L&D I would go by a ubber cheap pair from target, I got a good pair from fleet farm for like $7.

Good point.  I'm taking crappy walmart nursing gowns for that very reason, and leaving the nice organic one at home, I should have considered that!  I didn't know they gave us footie socks at the hospital either.

  • Another thing- pregnant women tend to be "hot" during labor but will have "cold" feet so you may not want to be taking your socks off. If anything a pair of slippers to wear while you "walk the halls" or go to the bathroom might be an OK idea- like another PP said- so you aren't putting socks that were on the hospital floor into your bed. It doesn't matter too much though- I wouldn't be a germaphobe about it, you're going to get clean sheets after LO is born. I definitely wouldn't splash out anything too fancy.

I don't plan on spending money on slippers.  I'd rather get some cute PJs or something else instead.

I'll probably just bring some flip-flops.

This. I wore the hospital footies during labor but was way too hot for the two days afterwards. I was always barefoot expect when walking around my room.

More than I've ever spent on slippers before... but then again, I haven't owned slippers for almost 10 years.  The 2 I'm trying to choose between are around 45 and 75, but I'm the type of person to buy shoes that (might) last a lifetime, and slippers are no exception.

BUT in this case I'm leaning heavily toward cheap ones now.  I definitely want something I can slip in and out of easily, plus I'm laboring in a tub so I should probably get the cheap-o terry cloth type.

Well I must have removed the $45 pair somehow... but here's the more expensive Uggs.  A friend of mine LIVES in these things. She's had them for years and have held up great.

^This^... and if they get wet, dirty, or messy, they will bring you new ones if you ask.

  • I'm bringing my very old, very worn slippers with me. They have seen better days and I have decided I'll invest in a new pair for at home and take the old ones to the hospital (doing the same thing for my in-hospital clothes). That way I'm not freaking out if they get ruined.

Same with flip flops actually, I'm taking a pair that I don't wear much and don't really care much about.

  • I really do not recommend taking $80 Ugg slippers to the hospital. Odds are, they will get blood on them, and that would really suck.

Personally, I'm taking a pair of crocs. I have them for washing my car and stuff. Ugly, but they're easy to get on and off, and if I drip blood on them, they can be wiped right off and still worn - no worries about waiting for wet slippers to dry.

    p
  • I don't wear slippers, so they seem like a waste of money to me.  I'm also planning on taking an old pair of Crocs - way easier to clean and already paid for!
