New to the message board scene.....
Baby is two months and quite a handful. My husband said I should sign up for this and reach out to other moms. So,here it goes.....She has to be held ALL day. Every time I try to put her down, she is awake within minutes. We have tried her playard, a bassinet, her crib, on the couch (under close supervision), in her newborn swing, in her vibrating chair, carseat, stroller, and two different carriers (Chicco and Moby Wrap). She cries when we try to feed her. She will latch after fussing/crying for a minute or so.Sometimes she will start to scream as soon as the bottle hits her lips. When we have to burp her half way through, she whines then it takes an act of Congress after to get her to latch again. She used to use only Avent, but now won't take them at all. We have purchased EVERY bottle they make and found the one she is least fussy with is Dr. Browns. On top of that all, she gets very painful gas. We have switched formula 3 times under the supervision of our Dr. She is currently on Gentlease which has reduced the painful screaming gas episodes to a few a day. =-( She smiles and is happy for a few minutes after she wakes up, but otherwise is constantly fussing, struggling, or crying. Is this normal for some babies? HELP! I guess I really needed to vent.
Re: High-Needs Baby
You may want to try the 0-3 months board and see if you can get some feedback there. We had a blissfully easy baby, but there were plenty of moms on the board dealing with gas issues, colic, and other things. They may be able to give you some tips.
When she wakes up when you put her down, does she just hang out, or does she get upset? If she just hangs out, there's nothing wrong with letting her be awake but content in a bassinet, etc. I put DD in the Moby a lot and just walked around the house with her, even if she was awake. We did have a few days here and there where she was only happy if she was on someone, so we sucked it up and didn't get a lot done that day.
Have you tried Mylicon or gripe water for the gas? That could help somewhat.
And yes, this is normal for some babies. She may still be having tummy issues with formula, or she may still be adjusting to life on the outside, as it were.
