Rubber Ducks?

I'm having a hard time finding them! I guess there's this thing about rubber ducks being unsafe since they're made of PVC/phalates/etc so I was wondering do little kids not have rubber ducks for bathtime anymore?

The only one I can find is this Boon Odd Duck but some of the reviews are a bit mixed...does anyone have one of these (and if so, how do you like it?) or maybe another bathtime duck that you'd like to suggest? TIA!!

Re: Rubber Ducks?

  • our cloth diaper store sells this one:

    https://www.ourgreenhouse.com/natural_rubber_duck_p/1131duck.htm

other than that someone bought Jack some bath time squirters and other toys and I don't really know what they are made of.  Oh well - he's much more into trying to eat (suck) the wash cloth. ha.

  • wait, on second read - I think the diaper store must sell the larger one because some reviews on amazon say it's really small (almost a choke hazard?).  The one have is bigger than a fist and cost more - I want to say $15 - I dunno, MIL bought it.

google natural rubber bath toy or duck.  tinybirdsorganics.com has some that even have a little door on the bottom to let the water out of so that no mold can grow.  I'm always nervous about that with any of the squirters or bath toys.

Though we don't really use it for the temperature gauge....it's too vague.  Henry doesn't really play with it yet, but it's cute floating around!  :P

  • We have the ones from Target that sense hot or cold but we don't use them for that. They were gifts and we like them. Bella's favorite thing in the tub is a big plastic cup!
  • We have 4 (various brands) that were given to us as gifts, and I don't think any of them are "safe" plastic/rubber. But the boys love them so I let 'em play with them anyway. Embarrassed

Yeah, on Amazon, there's one that's $8 but it says it's only for ages 3+, so that's the one that people said is small and a choke hazard. The big one is like $25 though! Pretty hefty for a bathtime duck!

Ahhh yes, I found the one you're talking about here and it looks pretty good to me, and isn't horribly cheap either but not $25! Just wondering, have you used tinybirdorganics.com before? I'm usually hesitant about ordering on sites that I haven't heard of unless I know of people who have had good experiences with them. Thanks!!

hahaha me too. i did not even think of it but the one we have mostly floats around. she doesn't put it in her mouth much.  i guess i'll try to keep it out of her mouth from now on but otherwise i am ok w/her playing w/it

Haha, MIL always said that she had never seen a baby constantly put so many things in his mouth until B (and she's cared for 7 grandkids before him). But yeah, if he wasn't busy sucking all his toys dry during every bathtime, I wouldn't have cared much about it at all.

  • I haven't ordered from them.  I have their page marked b/c they have a really nice (free) cloth diaper cover knitting pattern.

We have this one, I think.  We just like it b/c it squeaks.  He used to chew on it some, but not much.
