haha i know right..i started looking around 14weeks and got so overwhelmed. Then i just printed out the little helper and went through it step by step each item and did a little research and figured whether or not i needed it. Good luck.
Babies "R" Us has an event tomorrow, Saturday the 8th from 12-3pm. Check it out. They will inform you about the must haves for a registry & they are going to have giveaways!!
The BRU by me is having a Baby Shower at noon tomorrow to learn how to start a registry, what's important, etc. so I'm planning on going to that and getting started sometime within the next few weeks.
I think the hardest part for me will be the car seat/stroller/travel system decision. I did a little comparison shopping between the options and I still don't know what to do!
I've been looking around BRU website and made a private "wish list" that only I can view. I've been putting things on there that I am interested in or know I want. Like pp's said, BRU is having an event tomorrow. I'm planning on going because like you I'm a bit overwhelmed. Hoping to get some good ideas to help me. Will prob create a registry once we find out what we are having.
If you can, seriously consider taking a mommy up there to walk you through the aisles!
I had a friend do this recently. I wasn't actually registering, but she walked me aisle by aisle and went through everything! It was so nice to get opinions on stuff (Stuff I wouldn't have thought about, like she took a bottle out of the box and showed me how many pieces it had and how hard it was to wash vs another brand!)
It probably took about 4 hours to do the whole store, but by the end I felt so much more equipped to bring DH in there later and register fairly quickly.
I went to BRU for the first time the other day to check out cribs, and I was totally overwhelmed. I just got Baby Bargains today, so I'm hoping that will guide me a bit on what to register for, what to forget and what brands to choose. I'm also going to ask my mom friends for recommendations.
It's really helping me weed out all the crap that's out there. Our house is really small and storage is lacking, so knowing what a newborn stuff I'd need at the beginning is a huge help.
We've been to BRU and BBB. Both times we just went to browse. It was unstressful and pretty helpful. I know MH was a little overwelmed, but when we do go back to register, it won't be so bad and he knows what to expect. I know some people do it over the course of a few days.
For me, I searched for Baby Registry checklists and printed a few out and then compiled my own. There are certain things on some that I won't register for and some were very detailed, so it made sense to pick and choose my wants & needs. I just put it into an excel sheet and am going off of that. I'm sure once I get to the store I will find a bunch of other things, but this was kind of my "must have" list so I didn't forget.
I would suggest getting Baby Bargains! It's intimidating at first, but just take it a little at a time. Also I plan to go to Babys R Us with Baby Bargains in hand in the next week or so, so that I can actually see and test out all their recommendations.

We started registering today, we got a lot of things on our list but still need a lot. They gave us a little gift bag and everything too, it came with a 3 page list of stuff we'll need/might need so when we go back to finish registering it'll come in handy.

I had vented to my friend about how baby stuff is so overwhelming, and she wrote this blog post about her favorite things for her baby:

GL!
I find its easiest to go to BRU or BBB, grab a gun, and walk down every aisle and scan everything you could possibly think you MIGHT need.
Otherwise, you'll go crazy.
