Ferber and Pacifiers

So I am planning on starting ferber this weekend. LO sleeps with a pacifier and I am wondering if it would be better to wean night time pacifier use while doing Ferber to avoid all the drama of doing it later. For those of you that have already done Ferber, did you wean night time pacifier use at the same time. If so how did it go? If not, how was your experience, good, bad? TIA!

I are currently doing Ferber and not weaning from the paci's. We are stopping night feedings though and I didn't want to do all three at once. She's likes a paci but isn't extremely dependent on it so I'm not too concerned about doing it later. Good luck!

We didn't intend to wean from paci at same time but when she was put down awake she got so mad that she wouldn't take it. After the 2nd night wenjust left it in the crib with her, I figures she could get it if she wanted it but every morning it was on the floor outside her crib. We stopped puttin it in with her and she doesnt take them anymore even during the day when she is awake. If I give it to her she looks at me like 'this is a crappy toy, no thanks'. GL and stay strong, the few nights of stress are totally worth it!

Our first attempt with Ferber was a fail because we didn't take the paci away (and I'm not totally sure he was ready to self-soothe yet).  He would start to cry, the paci would fall our, get lodged under his neck, and I'd lay in bed thinking about how uncomfortable he must be with that under him.  We decided to stop CIO, take away the paci, give him some tools to help him self-soothe and then tried it again and it worked like a charm.  Can your LO put the paci back in their mouth?  Mine couldn't so, as soon as it fell out, he had lost his tool to self-soothe.

Ferber wasn't that bad for us.  She cried maybe 30 minutes the first night and then maybe 5 minutes the next.  Now she fusses for a minute or two and then falls asleep.

What tools did you give him to self soothe? I am really interested to find out how I can help him... I think he has NO clue how to self soothe...

What tools did you give him to self soothe? I am really interested to find out how I can help him... I think he has NO clue how to self soothe...

We found that he loves to rub a blanket to his face (but I'm not super comfortable with him having a loose blanket in the crib), so we put a blanket down on his mattress and tucked it in real good.  The minute I put him in the crib, he turns his face and comforts himself a little.  We also gave him a lovie- he didn't necessarily care for it-, soft music playing, and we used "key words" when we went in.  When we went in to soothe him, we'd say "Shhh....it's night night time" everytime.  He got used to hearing that at night time sleep (we didn't use it for naps) so he seemed to start relating those words to continual sleep.  HTH

This & we went cold turkey on the pacifier at the same time.  Best thing we ever did.
