Oh thanks so much for thinking of her! Yes the baby went home today with two thrilled parents. I feel so horrible for the birth mother and my colleague about the mix up and confusion at the hospital. It is scary how close things came to not working out. Now it is just waiting for Monday when the adoption will be official.

Well originally the baby was supposed to go home on Tuesday but the hospital wanted to make sure he was eating okay so they decided to have him stay until Wednesday. Tuesday night, the birth mother said she wanted to say goodbye and the hospital staff told her the baby wasn't leaving until Thursday and she should wait.  Then on Wednesday when she asked to say goodbye to the baby they told her the baby was already gone (which wasn't true) and she had missed her chance.  So this was a HUGE mistake and misunderstanding. The adoptive parents weren't even at the hospital at the time.  

So the birth mother said she was canceling the adoption because she felt everyone was lying to her.  Her adoption counselor spoke with her to reassure her the hospital screwed up and the parents were not trying to dupe her. I think the hospital administrators were involved as well.

They decided to wait until Thursday for the baby to go home.

It is so very sad because the birth mother had every intention and no doubt in her mind that she wanted to put the baby up for adoption so she must have been so upset over the situation to get to the point of saying she would cancel it.

The good news is the baby is home and they just have until Monday before the adoption is official.
