How to stop teething on crib?

DD has been teething on her crib there are bite marks and scrapes and shes getting down to making big indents in the wood.  I want to stop this but have no idea how?  Any ideas.  TIA Its such a pretty crib...well was...

Re: How to stop teething on crib?

  • I "made" a crib protector. I got some fleece and cut it to the length of the rail and then made cuts every inch or so. Think those no sew fleece blankets and tied it onto the crib rail. Worked like a charm-he stopped chewing on the rails.

  • maybe rub some vinegar on it?  i know you can use vinegar to clean somethings, and i don't think it would hurt her but it would taste nasty.  i don't really know what it would do to the wood or finish though-i would try it on a part you can't see first, then if it's ok rub it all over the part's she's teething on.

oh that sounds like a MUCH nicer idea than mine!  i would try that first for sure.  i bet if you go to a local fabric store the probably have some fleece in the cheap discount bin-might only cost you like a dollar or two to do this.  GL!

  • I bought the clear plastic rail covers, but then DS figured out how to take them off and play with them.  So then instead of buying a fleece cover, I tied 2 of his old sheet protectors over the side (2 of them perfectly fit the long side of the crib).  It worked very well, so I got another sheet protector to tie onto the end side.  Not super cute, but very functional!
  • We got this after we noticed DD was biting her crib.  I'm so sad we didn't catch it sooner, though!  The fleece idea sounds great- and cheap!

  • We have the Leachco covers twirler linked to. THey work great, neither kid has messed with them at all, but they are $$$, I bought the long side and the short sides and have 2 cribs but it was worth it to not have ruined cribs since ours are convertible to full size beds. Unfortunately, I really wish someone had advised me to protect it BEFORE they had teeth instead of learning the hard way. I would've put those things on from teh get go had I known- MH's belt buckle (and probably both of us) also messed up the finish on both cribs from nights spent leaning over & soothing, etc....
  • We have this. It's fleece, but has a waterproof bottom layer. It's definitely worth $20.

  • We also have the trend lab covers. They are great, and DD hasn't figured out how to take them off (and, even if she did, all of her teeth are in now, so it wouldn't matter anyway.)
