How do you dress your LO to keep them warm in the winter when going in & out of the car? We're switching to a convertible car seat soon and I need advice on what to do.
i dress my LO like i do for the house; he's such a little furnace that one layer, plus socks, is enough to keep him warm, and we keep the thermostat at 68 degrees.
i'll usually try and have the car running for 5-10 minutes before so it's warmed up, but we always have the jj cole bundleme on his carseat.
he hates hats, but i put one on him anyway, at least until we're all in the car and the doors are shut. i'll pull the front of the bundleme over his head when we're outside, but as soon as i get him in the car, or we get into whatever building we're going to (home, store, etc.), i'll pull the cover back down. he overheats so easily, too, it's nice to be able to easily push the cover off him completely, even while driving, which wouldn't be the case if he were strapped in wearing a snowsuit or extra layers.
We're thinking of switching to a convertible soon too, but may wait until winter's over, for just this reason. We have one of those car seat covers that keeps their heat in, but I don't think those work with a convertible - and I've heard so much about how bulky snowsuits etc. prevent you from getting a good fit in the car seat. I'll be interested to see what folks come up with too.

We keep a bigger fleece blanket in the car to cover her with. We let the car warm up for a few min and make sure she has a hat and mittens on and then just wrap the blanket around her. She wears a light jacket so there isn't too much bulk under the straps. Her mittens are the only thing that doesn't stay on for too long while she is in the car. She uses her hands too much that the mittens bug her.
I dress her in long sleeves, pants and socks minimally. I have a light jacket that we will use and some fuzzy boots too. We mostly just wrap her in a big fleece blanket though...much to the dismay of my mother. She hates hats and mittens and pulls them off immediatly. If she can't pull them off she will have a complete breakdown.
I keep extra blankets, a hat, mittens and a thicker coat in the car in case my car break downs. I also keep the Baby Bjorn in the car too, just in case I ever have to walk to a gas station I won't get too exhausted carrying her.

please take this out! this is not safe, compromises the integrity of the carseat and in an accident voids the warranty

We actually went out and bought a child snuggie and put that on him when we go. Then when we get out we just wrap him up and carry him in. It works like the travel trench. I don't do bulky jackets, and any other sort of thing that would inhibit the working of the car seat.
