A friend is asking because she has to choose new insurance & will be paying a percentage of her hospitalization. Obviously it will vary depending on the area & everything, but she is just looking for a rough estimate. Thanks!

Re: How much did your hospital birth cost (not your copay)
I think mine came to about $52k . Like PP I had a failed induction, I labored for 32 hours and ended up with a c/s. I also had two epis.
I was in the hospital for 4 days
I had a normal, natural birth, stayed in hospital for 2 or 3 nights. Hospital billed us for $8 K, but we only had to pay $100 out of pocket because we have really good insurance.
ETA: Judging by what everyone's answers, we got a good deal!
this exactly!
$16k at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles
i had a pitocin-only induction, 7 hours of labor, and no epidural. I stayed a total of just under 72 hours. there were no complications with the baby.
$73k we ended up in NICU for 10 days.

About $13k and some change.
Normal vaginal birth, healthy baby (no special medical assistance needed) epi. and 2 night's stay at the hospital.
We have to pay about $1500, our hospital has allowed us to pay it off in $100 monthly payments.
Hospital charges were almost $15k - we paid about $300, OBGYN's office (only for delivery, not prenatal care) was about $3000 - we paid about $500, Anesthesia was almost $900 (bill was from a separate provider) - we paid a little over $100.
Hospital charges were for a regular vaginal delivery and no problems with baby. However, I had to have two blood transfusions (each bag of blood was almost $900!) and stayed in the hospital from 4 am Monday to 6 pm Wednesday (DD was born at 9:17 am on Monday.)
About 25K for just the hospital, the OB and labs/tests were more. I had a scheduled c-section and stayed for just under 3 days. No problems with dleivery or baby.
HOLY HELL to some of those prices!!!!
NO insurance
scheduled induction
cytotec to complete effacing
pitocin to fully dilate
1 epi
started as a regular vag delivery but ended as C/s after @ less than 12hr labor/20 minutes pushing
blood pressure issues after delivery forcing a magnesium drip.
In hospital from 1am 12/22- @ 1pm 12/24 which is not typical for a c/s (normally is at least 3 days for a c/s)
DS was $1500 (discount $1200 i think)
epi $4500
vag delivery $4500-6000 (discounted @ 25%)
c/s delivery $8000-10,000 (discounted @25%)
The discount was if the bill was paid prior to delivery. so all in all our total was @$16,000. That is not counting all the lab fees and prenatal visits, etc. I remember ultrasounds, paying cash was@ $300 each. I had @ 5 total over the course of my pregnancy.
About $43,000. We paid $5,000.
This includes a Monday - Friday hospital stay, two failed attempts at induction and one successful (I forget all of the details) and one epi. Except for the fact he had no plans on coming out on his own, my delivery was pretty routine.
Go Phils!!
About $9k, but we only paid about $2k.
Unmedicated, vaginal delivery, 2 night stay.
It's a rough number, but I want to say my grand total was around $25K.
That includes: All OB services, I had a high risk pregnancy with PIH, and GD, saw a Endocronologist weekly, had I don't even remember how many ultra sounds, and at 32ish weeks, started going to my OB twice a week for NST scans.
My delivery was a scheduled induction, with cervadil, pitocin, and an epi, we stayed for 3 nights. DS was circumcised (that was $527 pre-insurance, I remember that number distinctly)
Where are you all having your babies?
Planned and failed induction, 2 failed epidurals, labored over 24 hours, put under (to sleep) for a c-section, 5 days in the hospital. 2 days in ICU care (pre-eclampsia & Mag), $18,000 TOTAL
Our portion $50.00
