I went in for my 38 week check up and because the previous week I mentione a decrease in fetal movement my Dr had me do a NST. Well because the NST showed a few "alarming drops" in the fetal heartrate and because I have been measuring small my entire pregnancy my Dr decided it was best to deliver. DH and I went home to pack my bag and take care of a couple things then headed to L&D. At 6pm I was given Cervadel to soften my cervex. By 8pm I was having contractions about 2 minutes apart but I was only 1cm dilated. The nurse gave me morphine and a sleeping pill at 10pm. I woke up at 3am with very painful contractions. At 5:30am they removed the Cervadel (3cm) and gave me an enima. I also got some drugs to take the edge off until the epidural. At 6am I got the epidural, not painful at all. My Dr came in at 8am and I was fully dilated and ready to go! I only pushed about 10 times and Gavin was born! He was taken to the NICU right away because he was breathing too rapidly. I was so sad that I could not hold him...but it could have been much worse! When I delivered the placenta we learned that it was failing and was very small...basically it was not providing the baby with everything that he needed and that was why I had been measuring small. We are all home now after his week long stay and thankful that everything is ok!
