I think when my son was 3 weeks he probably went through that many. He is breastfed and still pees alot so now at 12 weeks we go through about 8-12 (the norm). So I think as your baby's digestive system starts to regulate the number of diapers will decrease. Also, we buy diapers at Sam's club and get 234 pampers for $38, a pretty good deal even after the membership cost of $40, hope thats helpful.
we don't have a sam's club nearby but i've found that with the free amazon mom membership and coupons I can get a 264 pack of Luvs for $19 and free shipping so we've been doing that!
Good grief that's a lot of diapers!! You should probably assume a change every 2 hours though sometimes it will be a little more and sometimes a little less for a newborn. Now that he is getting a little farther away from newborn status we use about 10/day.
That's like a diaper per hour! We use probably 10 per day. We change at feeding times unless she poops in between. You are definitely using WAY too many diapers.
Little Man (4 years old---holy cow) He's the single greatest thing I've done in my life and reminds me daily of how fun (and funny) life can be. He's turned out pretty swell for having such a heartless and evil mother.
wth does that mean? that it's better to let your kid sit in his filth rather than change a diaper?
enlighten me, please
I think of what I would have to do to go through 25 diapers in a day. I don't wake my sleeping baby, and she is only really awake a few hours in a day. You'd be changing the diaper constantly. Diapers can hold more than one pee.....not that you leave your child in a sopping wet or poop diaper, but the same diaper can stay on for a few hours. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that 25 diapers a day is excessive. To each their own....if the op wants to use that many diapers, fine. She asked what others thought and I gave my opinion.

Maybe mrssequin (like myself) is just wondering if you're waking your baby to change him/her? If you're not, I can't imagine going through that many in a day either. When DD was a NB we went through 10-12 but now that she's sleeping for 7 or 8 hours at night, we're down to about 7 a day. She doesn't stew in dirty diapers; I check her at every feeding and if I hear/smell anything in between, but I don't think we've gone through even 10 in a while.
My LO is breast feeding and also goes through A LOT of diapers, especially now that she has a bit of diaper rash. She sharts/poos probably once an hour. I feel your financial pain!
everyone who's saying they cant imagine going through that many diapers a day needs to realize every baby is different...some children wont let you know when they're wet/dirty and others scream and want a dry diaper every time time they pee, its easy to go through that many diapers with a newborn when your child LIKES to be dry.

Good point! Maybe OP's baby cries/wakes because of a dirty diaper. DD doesn't seem to mind so she often sleeps through some doozies. I guess if she did let me know every single time, we'd go through more than we currently do. 24 just sounds like a boat load of diapers, sorry. I feel for your wallett, OP. They're not cheap!

I never wake my baby to change him we change him when he's fussing about it and when it is obviously full. Of course he's had horrible diaper rash twice to the point of his little but actually bleeding! So we are very conscious of changing him as soon as he is finished pooping to avoid this problem for a third time. Not to mention that on average DS has anywhere from 4-6 poopy diapers a day not to mention all the wet ones!
My baby is 3 1/2 months and goes through at least 20 diapers a day. Only one of which is poopy. She doesn't mind a diaper change and loves the toys on her changing table. So, I buy diapers in bulk off amazon and everyone is happy.
How old is your LO? That seems a bit excessive. We went through a lot early on, but that was because DS had a bad case of jaundice and had the billy bed. They get rid of the billirubin through their poop. At that time, I was feeding him pretty much before and then right after a feeding- and sometimes halfway in between. Otherwise, now I can go awhile between #1 diapers- usually at least 2 hours. I've heard that you can let them go a couple of hours with #1 in the diaper, but just to change it right away if you smell #2.

We went through that many diapers for about the first 4 weeks. LO would sometimes have 3-4 massive poops in an hour. He's 6 weeks now, and it no longer a poop machine. We are going through 8-10 diapers a day now. Don't worry, your baby should start using fewer diapers with time!

Wow, that sounds like a lot! But DS doesn't poop very often, so it cuts down on the amount of diapers we use I suppose. We go through about 8-10 a day.
Re: How many diapers do you use in a day???
Um, 20-25 diapers PER DAY?! Holy crap!
We change DS before every feeding, so 7 times a day. Plus any extra poops, which usually aren't caught until we're doing the normal feeding.
I'd say we use 7-10 diapers per day.
This exactly for us as well! Maybe 8-12 but nowhere near 20-25!

this exactly...theres no such thing as TOO MANY diapers. I know they're expensive but when your child's wet you change them...end of story

this. LO screams with the smallest amount of poo/pee in her diaper. I'd be pissed too if someone made me sit with poopy pants.
