Baby Names

Completely opposite tastes... :(

Hi. I'm new here...I mainly stumbled upon this site, looking for name feedback.

My husband and I have such completely opposite tastes when it comes to girl names. He likes pretty masculine names... his faves are:

Micah (this one is somewhat growing on me...is it bad?)

Landry

Shea

My faves:

Brynn

Tess

Maisie

Maeve

He HATES them. I just don't feel like we'll ever find a middle ground. We both are so-so on Avery, but I just don't want to settle on a name. I'd love some feedback and suggestions! Thanks!

Re: Completely opposite tastes... :(

  • I do think "boy" when I think of Micah, but I think it would be ok on a girl considering people will use names like Elliot for a girl.

I would say just keep looking if you are feeling unsure; you never know when a name will pop out at you that you never considered before! (or maybe this will happen to your husband when he looks over your name list again, haha)

  • I like Micah for a girl...even spelled the way you have it.  It would be really nice with a nice feminine middle name I think...

I also like Tess...can you mix it up with a masculine type first name and a feminine middle name??

  • I would use one of his choices as a MN. Tess Landry sounds pretty IMHO.

Of course, I love Maeve as it's DD2's name.

Other suggestions: Brenna, Maren, Taryn, Shannon, Rory, Lyla, Arden

Micah is a boys' name. Mica is the feminine spelling. Same with Shea. Shay(e) is the feminine spelling. What if you chose full names for some of your choices as a compromise? Margaret for Maisie? Therese for Tess? How about Brenna? or Mischa? Try exploring different forms of the names on both of your lists. Give limited veto power, and allow a name to grow on you. Give each name a test drive; wear it for a day. Introduce yourself as such, put it down on reservation. You might be surprised.

    This is all great advice!

    According to BehindTheName.com:

Shea is a unisex Irish spelling.

Shae is a feminine English(modern) spelling.

Shay is a masculine Irish spelling, or a unisex Hebrew spelling.

Shaye is a feminine English(rare) spelling.

  • I love Brynn! But if you guys still can't agree maybe you can try to find a unisex name..that's what my parents did when they had my sister...it was the only thing they could agree on.
  • Micah is a boy name. There are many lovely girl names out there. Please don't ruin a perfectly good boy name by giving it to a girl. I've seen Landry used on both genders. I *think* the University of Oklahoma's quarterback is named Landry. I also see "laundry" when I see the name Landry. Shea is ok.

Have you asked him why he leans toward boy names for his daughter?

What about Elle, Katia, Lucy, Darby, Calla, Audrey, Jane, Jill, Carey, Casey, Bess, Molly, Wren, Rowan, Bree, Stella, Maren, Brooke, Paige, Shelby, Ruby, Halle, Nan, Blythe, Blair, or Leigh?

The bottom line is that if you hate his names and he hates yours, you both need to keep looking or one of you may end up really resentful.

Micah (this one is somewhat growing on me...is it bad?)- This is a boys name

    Landry-  NMS

Shea - better than Micah or Landry

    My faves:

    Brynn- A male Welsh name.

Tess- Love, I also like Tessa.

    Maisie- Nice

Maeve- NMS, I don't know I just really don't like this name.

Do you think he would agree to a name that has a masculine nn?  Ex. Samantha, nn Sam.

The other option is unisex names such as Cameron.
