Need Dr. Help!

I live in Hackensack, NJ  and have been trying to find a doctor that does NOT perform rountine episiotomies on first time deliveries.  I'm not having much luck.  Is there anyone who can recommend a doctor that they know shares the belief of not performing an episiotomy unless it is absolutly necessary?  Thanks for your help!!!

Unfortunately you live in the state with the highest C/S rate in the nation!  40%.  Which means that finding a doctor with low intervention rates will definitely be hard.  Have you considered a midwife?  Their rates of episiotomy and all other interventions are much lower.  If you want a low-intervention birth it will be worth the effort to find the right provider AND hospital or birth center.  (Or homebirth provider, if you were me.).  Good luck, whatever you decide.

Have you considered finding a doula? She will act as your coach and advocate during labor so there will be a level head (not an exhausted woman or a nervous husband) helping you give birth the way you want. You have the right to refuse unnecessary medical procedures.

A doula may also be able to recommend doctors she has worked well with in the past.

Mitzie,  How do I go about finding a doula?  I've never heard of it before, but willing to do some research.
