Trouble TTC

Looking for some advice....

Previously posted on High Risk Board

Hello Ladies-

I was looking for some advice.  my DH and I have been TTC since we got married in November.  I know it hasnt been that long but I have some medical issues.  4 years ago my Dr found a cyst on my ovary(not cancer) that had taken it over and so they removed the ovary and the tube. So i currently have only one.  I was looking for some advice from anyone who has concieved/TTC with only one ovary and if they have any advice? Did you have any other issues.  I was also born with only one kidney so not sure how that will factor in.  I have an appt with my dr in a few weeks for my annual and plan on talking to her about what she thinks we should do.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice!

  • If you are concerned I would definitely see an RE (reproductive endocrinologist), especially since you are missing a tube and ovary, an RE would be able to help you achieve pregnancy or diagnose any other known issues.  If it were me, that's what I'd do.  Good Luck!

  • I think it pretty much depends on how aggressive you want to be about TTC. Missing a tube and ovary means it might take you longer to get pregnant than a normal couple. With normal couples, it can take up to a year to conceive. So, if you're not in a rush to have a baby right now, waiting it out and trying naturally at least until you hit the year mark might be an option.

If you don't want to wait it out, I suggest starting with the initial testing. This includes 7DPO(days past ovulation) bloodwork, an HSG (to make sure your one tube and your ute are clear of blockages), and an s/a (semen analysis) for your DH.

Your obgyn can do this initial testing for you, but if you choose to go through treatments I suggest seeing an RE.
