s/o Birth Classes

I was looking at our hospital's class list and description of hospital tours. It recommends doing the tour before the classes but I'm wondering if that's really necessary. Does any one know why that's suggested or if it's really all that important to do the tour first?

Re: s/o Birth Classes

  • I don't know why they would recommend it.  We want to go on the tour before signing up for the class.  The tour and classes are given by the same person and we want to check her out and make sure we think a class with her will be worth it before spending the money.

  • We went on a tour first because there are several options of where we could deliver and we wanted to make sure that this birth center was going to be "it" before we further familiarized ourselves with their practices over 6 weeks and $100.

  • Our class offers a tour along with the class. It will be during the 2nd or 3rd class. I guess it just depends on the hospital.

  • My guess is just to make sure that is where you want to deliver, because a lot of mom's like to take the classes at the hopsital where you will be delivering. I know the classes I am looking to sign up for offer a tour, but we're taking a seperate tour before the classes just to make sure that's where we want to be.... it's free so what's there to lose?

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I'm thinking we'll just plan to do a tour in the middle of classes some time. I really only have one choice of hospitals so the tour for us would just be to get a glimpse of what we'll see come d-day. Not all the classes are even held at the hospital. Some are off campus and it says the location depends on class size...

  • Apparently at our hospital the 'tour' is a slide show of the hospital with a woman who stands there & narrates it & you aren't supposed to ask her any questions.  It takes 3 hours.  Then they have you fill out your pre-admittal forms & that's it.  Seems weird to us. Why not just put all of that on the health region's website? Would save a ton of resources.
