Here's my issue - they make Addison out to be this top gynecological surgeon AND a neonatologist. Which is just dumb.
Wheee!
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
The sight of that little baby was just too much for me. I know it would be the most awful situation ever, but that little girl deserves a chance, too, IMO. Ugh, I can't get that picture out of my head.
It was a pretty rough... it was pretty fake looking.. but still pretty sad. I was really mad at the stupid mom that broke her own water.. even though I knew she wanted to save her son.
I'm a little grossed out by Cooper and the nasty crotchless panty doctor.. whatever the heck her name is!

I love this show (there is ALWAYS drama), but a lot of it doesn't make sense. For example, supposedly they are all "top" doctors in their field. Addison alone must be rich as HELL. But there practice is broke? HOW???
It reminded me of the book "My Sister's Keeper" that I just finished reading. In the book the baby is born without issues and the story is about the rest of her life, so not entirely the same - but she was conceived for the same reason.
The book really raised some interesting thoughts and considerations - ethical, moral, legal, etc. So, I guess I was more focused on that and the parents' desire to save their older child. It was certainly a sad story, but it didn't upset me too much (any more than the writers intended it to!)
I won't be watching it (no DVR for me) but tell me about it.
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
Basically this couple has a 7-year-old dying from leukemia. He has a partial match donor, but the donor gets pneumonia, after the boy is already stripped of his immunity (not quite sure what that means), so the boy will die soon if there is not another match. The parents did IVF and had the doc select an embryo that is an exact match for the boy, so the cord blood would save his life. The problem is that the mom is only 6 monhts pg. Addison won't deliver the baby that early, so the mom breaks her own water so the baby has to be delivered. The sight of the baby just so awful -- she was incredibly tiny and bluish and just so sickly/pathetic looking. She did end up surviving, though, using some new experimental technique (of course).
Stripping your immunity... Jillrock, my MIL had the same thing in cancer treatment. They pretty much take all your white blood cells or something so your immunity is ZERO. She wasn't supposed to eat honey for a year as she was like a newborn. Then they took her own stem cells to create a new immunity. I'm probably not explaining it well.
I am with LucyP. It bugs me to no end that Addison is an OB/genetics specialist/neonatologist/ and I believe she has done fetal surgery in the womb. Umm hello that is 4 different residencies!
This show drives me nuts with the far fetched crap. Remember last season when they did IVF in a DAY because the woman just happened to be ovulating. ::bangs head::
DH went to college with Taye Diggs and used to play tennis with him. We have a picture of him looking like Dwayne Wayne.
I tend to suspend disbelief when I watch TV so it doesn't bother me too much that it's utterly unrealistic.
But, that episode really got to me. Not so much because of the site of a micropreemie, more because I would never want to be in that situation. I would like to say that I would never, ever have a child to save one of my children but... I can't imagine knowing my child was dying. What if I could save my child by conceiving another? It doesn't seem that crazy, really, especially if you know you'd love another child anyway. And, then, your child has a week to live... what do you do?
I don't know. I just hope never to have to make those types of decisions.
yeah..i watched it last night..hmmm..i kept going back and forth..being a mom of preemies, i wanted to b!tch slap the mom..but then again, i thought about what if i was in the same position with one of my boys? i can't believe that i would not do anything possible to save them....i dunno...
luckily the little fake baby looked really fake!

I was holding my belly the whole time.

Ya know I don't remember Addison having this many specialties when she was on Grey's either. It's like they just keep multiplying.
But I'll still watch it every Wednesday. lol
