Saw your post below about today being the first day back.... hope it's going smoothly....

For me, the anticipation of going back was far worse than actually going back. The boys are really doing well at DC and they probably get more "development" there than they ever did with me (I just could never resist a good marathon of "The real housewives...") Once we got the routine down pat it was easy!

Let us know how you did! HUGS!

Thanks for this message. I agree, the anticipation of the first day back to work and the babies first day in daycare was way worse then the actual day. I think I was about to lose as I dropped them off but I rushed out of there so not to cry.

I hope to get the routine down soon. Right now it feels like I don't have any "me" time. I rush around in the morning to get ready, get the babies ready and get out the door. Then I have to rush home to pick up the babies since they close at 6pm. I feel like every day is going to be me rushing around and never having any time to do anything. So I hope I can get a routine down fairly quickly! We will see...

  • You totally got it! There is no "me" time at all!!!

Right now, we have the boys at a daycare closer to our jobs, so dh and I drive in together, do the drop off together, and pick up and drive home together. The only time we really talk to each other is during the drive and that's only if the babies aren't screaming!

Starting in March, we'll have them in DC closer to our house. So we'll have to figure out how to do drop off/pick up (with our an hour and fifteen commutes). I feel like all we'll be doing then is rushing to drop off and then rushing to pick up.

You'll get a routine down pat in no time.... Dh and I was just joking this morning how our mornings are like a synchronized swim! We get the boys up and fed and out the door in less than an hour!

  • Wow - an hour and fifteen minute commute is crazy! Why did you guys decide to switch the daycare if the routine was working for you guys?

My twins have only been in DC the last two days, but both times when I've picked them up, they are horribly tired and end up crying the whole way home - which is frustrating! I thought they would be all smiles and happy to see me (or DH) when I pick them up, but the last two days they cry when they see me... almost like they are mad at me (or DH) for leaving them there. I know I am overanalyzing this and they are just overtired, but it makes my so sad to see them so upset when I get there.

How old where your LOs when they started DC? Do you notice that they are fussy when you pick them up and take them home? How long did it take for them to adjust to being at DC everyday?

    GL with the new DC!!

  • Long story about having to switch day cares - Basically my work has pretty awesome benefits. We get 20 days of "back up childcare" every year (so in case your nanny gets sick, regular dc is closed, etc) and we get 8 weeks of very very very cheap daycare for mothers returning to work. So since I was going back to work in Dec, we used up my 20 days for 2010 in Dec and started the 8 week program this week. But there is no option to keep them there permanently so we'll have to pull the boys out in March.

They were 4 months when they started DC and yes they were totally fussy the first few days. But they completely adjusted after that! Now they'll have melt downs every once in a while, but it's not the norm (usually when we hit traffic).

I was that mom at DC. I pretty much made sure they followed my scheduling for food and naps. I re-iterated that I expect my children to nap there and I expect them to "put my kids to nap" and not just waiting for them to fall asleep. We are also at a pretty structured DC (Bright Horizons) so they are pretty good about making sure they nap.

    Hope today is smoother!
