circumcision cost

I just found out that circumcisions are not covered by our insurance. My DH is adamant that we have it done for the boys. Does anyone know how much this may cost?  I know that it may be different for certain drs. and so on, but I was hoping to get an average cost.  I HATE INSURANCE!!

Re: circumcision cost

  • $500 each. My insurance said the samething, but I never received a bill.

  • We had ours done by a mohel.  He charged $500 for one, $180 for the second.

  • Circs used to be covered by our heatlh insurance in Canada but no longer. It cost us $300 per boy. I asked if the pedi had a multiples discount, but he said no.  Wink

$600 out of our pockets. I didn't want the boys circ'd but DH was adamant and I left the decision up to him.

  • Our Dr submitted the charges to our insurance anyway (even though we knew it wasn't covered)...we ended up paying $125 -- only the covered amount....

  • I actually asked this question this morning to our doc...and she said $300/per boy.  So if we have 2 boys...we're looking at $600/total.  stinks, right?  we just found that out this morning that it's not covered by insurance.  it would be great if they did a deal on multiples....

Ours charged $250 and it was an awesome job.

  • I believe it was $500 but my insurance did pay for it!

  • Thanks for the help everyone! It helps to know how much I might have to pay. Do you think my pediatrician will know the exact cost? or should I call the hospital? I wasn't sure exactly who does this at the hospital.  Hopefully, they will give me a twin reduction!!
  • Your pediatrician might know, but the hospital would definately know. The costs for circumcision were explained to us by the financial person..it was explained to us that its not covered by insurance since its elective and was about $350 per child (not sure if discount for twins) but are having two girls so don't need to worry about that now!

    Good luck!
