The battery doesn't seem to take the charge and we can only turn it on to see a very dark picture for like 10 seconds before it goes black.
At first we thought it was the battery pack but when I called customer service they suggested taking out the battery pack and plugging it in to see if it worked. If yes, battery. If no, likely battery and adapter. I actually think the outlet on the handheld part is the problem since that has been giving us some trouble the past few months.
Anyone have any issues like this? I would hate to have to buy a whole new set with #2 coming along. I'm going to try and find an adapter to try it out before making a purchase.
Re: Anyone have a Summer Video monitor that stopped working?
Same thing with ours! When we take it off the battery it lasts less than 5 minutes and dies. I'm interested in seeing reponses as I haven't figured out what to do (buy a new one or not). I know we need to get a 2nd monitor for #2's room.
PS. We are due on the same day
Congrats!
I've had random issues, luckily up until now they were all things that Summer Infant fixed for free under the warranty.
I did have an issue w/the battery holding a charge at one point, and they replaced it for free. They did tell me to only keep it plugged in when I have it turned on, and unplug it and turn it off during the day when i'm not using it. It's been working fine that way.
Recently i've been noticing some static and wierd lines across the screen on the handset. I haven't changed the location of the handset or the camera, and there aren't any other baby monitors on our block (i'm sure of this), so I can't figure out where the interference is coming from.
The summer infant website is pretty good and the customer service was too. We plan on buying the 2nd monitor too which they have on the website. I hope we can get some responses here! I will keep you posted on what we figure out. Congrats to you too! I feel like June will be here in no time
Yes, our stopped working right when the warranty was up! I was not happy and Summer Customer Service didn't do anything -- I wasn't happy. Unfortunately there aren't many companies that make a video monitor and they have the biggest screens and when they do work, they are great.
If your warranty isn't up, I would call and have them send you a replacement one. I believe they definitely will if you've bought it within the year.
Ours will work if you just barely put the plug into the unit. If you push it all the way in, it won't work, and of course it will no longer charge the battery. Fortunately we don't really 'need' it anymore, but I suspect DS has started talking in his sleep a lot (takes after his mama), so I wanted to start using it again to see if he's sleeping or if I need to go in and attend to whatever he's talking about.
ETA: I guess I should add that ours is at least 4 yrs old. BIL & SIL bought it when their DD was born in Dec '06. I'm also pretty sure they got it used, so it's had a good life.
We had the older analog version for about 2.5 years and it was heavily used. The one day the battery got really really hot to the touch so I am thinking ventilation issue. I contacted customer service but after talking to some family the best they could do for us since our warranty was up was get a refurbished one for $50. Most of the refurbished ones don't last that long, so I just bought a new set and got the sleek and secure digital one. I feel better using it because no one can drive by with an old analog one and see inside my kids room.
Even though DS is 2 and we probably don't need it, I still like having it. He's still in a crib and my biggest fear is him trying to climb out. He hasn't yet but I am sure that day will come. We are still thinking of having another baby as well, and this one allows you to view 4 cameras on the same hand held monitor.
